Christ the King — Why He Must Reign

It is the last Sunday of the liturgical year. Why did the Pope invent this feast in 1925 to fight secularism?

In 1925, the world was messy. Mussolini was rising in Italy. Communism was spreading in Russia. Mexico was persecuting Catholics (Viva Cristo Rey!). Secular governments were saying: "Religion is private. Keep it in the sacristy. Don't let it influence laws or culture."

Pope Pius XI said: No. He established the Feast of Christ the King to remind the world that Jesus is not just the King of "our hearts." He is the King of the Universe.

  • He has authority over nations.
  • He has authority over economies.
  • He has authority over history.

What It Means for You

If Christ is King, then He isn't just a "hobby." You can't be a Catholic on Sunday and a secularist on Monday. He claims everything.
