Happy New Year! The Church dedicates the very first day of the year (Jan 1) to Mary under her supreme title: Theotokos (God-Bearer).

The Controversy (431 AD)

A bishop named Nestorius said: "Mary is the mother of the human Jesus, but not the mother of God." The Council of Ephesus said: Anathema! (You are wrong). Mothers don't give birth to "natures." They give birth to "persons." Jesus is ONE Divine Person. Mary is His mother. Therefore, Mary is the Mother of God. If you deny this, you deny that Jesus is God.

Why Start the Year Here?

Because without Mary's "Yes," we don't have Jesus. We ask her to mother us through the coming year.

Holy Mary, Mother of God... pray for us sinners. MyPrayerTower app.

"O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."
