In the entire liturgical calendar, the Church only celebrates three birthdays:
- Jesus (Christmas)
- St. John the Baptist (June 24)
- The Virgin Mary (September 8)
Why? Because these three were born without Original Sin (Jesus and Mary) or were sanctified in the womb (John). Everyone else is celebrated on their "death day" (their birthday into heaven).
Why September 8?
It is exactly 9 months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8).
How to Celebrate
It sounds silly, but: Buy a cake. Sing "Happy Birthday" to Mary with your kids. It makes the faith tangible. She is a real person, a real mother, and she loves to be celebrated by her children. Bring flowers to a statue of Mary at your parish.
Happy Birthday, Mama. Send a spiritual bouquet on the MyPrayerTower app.
