In 1858, a 14-year-old girl named Bernadette saw a "Beautiful Lady" in a grotto (Massabielle). The Lady asked her to dig in the mud. A spring bubbled up. Since then, 70 miracles (medically inexplicable cures) have been officially recognized, and thousands more reported.
The Name
The priest didn't believe Bernadette. He told her: "Ask the Lady her name." On March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation), the Lady said: "I am the Immaculate Conception." Bernadette didn't know this dogma (declared just 4 years earlier by the Pope). It was the proof the priest needed.
