Most people drink champagne. Catholics sing 'Te Deum.' How to wipe away the punishment for your sins before the ball drops.

The Church offers a special gift on December 31. A Plenary Indulgence is granted to the faithful who recite or sing the hymn Te Deum ("Thee, O God, we praise") in thanksgiving for the past year.

Why Thank God for a Bad Year?

Even if you had a terrible year, you are still alive. You still have grace. St. Paul says: "Give thanks in all circumstances." Gratitude is the only way to close the door on the past.

The Conditions

  1. Recite the Te Deum publicly (in a church) or privately.
  2. Confession + Communion.
  3. Pray for the Pope.
  4. Detachment from sin.

Start the new year with a clean slate. Find the prayer on the MyPrayerTower app.

"O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."
