When duty calls me, O Lord, to battle the raging flames, give me the strength to save a life, whatever be its name.
Help me embrace a frightened child before it is too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert, and hear the weakest shout, and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling, and to give the best in me, to guard my friend and neighbor, and protect their property. And if according to Thy will, I must forfeit my life, bless with Thy protecting hand my children and my wife.
St. Florian, patron of firefighters, protect our crew from collapsing roofs, sudden flashovers, toxic smoke, and unseen hazards. Bring us all back safely to the firehouse at the end of the shift. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
