King Herod was paranoid. When the Magi asked for the "newborn King," Herod saw a threat. He ordered the slaughter of all boys under age 2 in Bethlehem.
"Rachel Weeping"
Matthew quotes Jeremiah: "Rachel weeping for her children... because they are no more." These children died for Christ (Blood Baptism). They are the very first saints.
Modern Relevance
Today, we face a new slaughter of innocents (abortion). The Feast of the Holy Innocents is a day to pray for:
- End to abortion.
- Healing for parents who have lost a child.
- Protection of children from abuse.
