Anima Christi (Soul of Christ, Sanctify Me) in Latin and English
📜 Historical & Biblical Origin: Composed in the early 14th century (enriched with indulgences by Pope John XXII in 1330) and popularized worldwide by Saint Ignatius of Loyola at the opening of the Spiritual Exercises, this prayer is traditionally recited after receiving Holy Communion or during Eucharistic Adoration.
🕯️ Liturgical Setting & Posture: Kneel in silence before the Blessed Sacrament. Recite either in traditional Latin or in English translation.
In Latin:
Anima Christi, sanctifica me.
Corpus Christi, salva me.
Sanguis Christi, inebria me.
Aqua lateris Christi, lava me.
Passio Christi, conforta me.
O bone Iesu, exaudi me.
Intra tua vulnera absconde me.
Ne permittas me separari a te.
Ab hoste maligno defende me.
In hora mortis meae voca me.
Et iube me venire ad te,
Ut cum Sanctis tuis laudem te
In saecula saeculorum. Amen.
English Translation:
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malicious enemy defend me.
In the hour of my death call me.
And bid me come unto Thee,
That with Thy Saints I may praise Thee
For ever and ever. Amen.

My eldest son had not spoken to our family for over 4 years. We offered a Holy Mass intention for him on his birthday and united in prayer on this wall. Two weeks later, he knocked on our front door asking for forgiveness. God never abandons a praying mother.

Facing foreclosure, I turned to this prayer every morning at dawn. When my savings were down to their last week, a company I had interviewed with two months prior called out of nowhere offering a higher salary with full benefits. Keep the faith!
