Latin Treasury & Marian Antiphons

Salve Regina (Hail, Holy Queen) in Gregorian Chant Latin and English

Liturgical Setting, Posture & Origins

📜 Historical & Biblical Origin: Attributed to Blessed Hermann of Reichenau (1013–1054), Benedictine monk, this magnificent Marian antiphon has closed the night office of Compline and concluded the Holy Rosary across the universal Catholic Church for nearly a millennium.

🕯️ Liturgical Setting & Posture: Stand with hands folded, or sing to the simple Gregorian Chant tone at nightfall.

In Latin:

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae,

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Hevae,

ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos

misericordes oculos ad nos converte;

et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

V. Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genetrix.

R. Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.

English Translation:

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;

to thee do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious advocate,

thine eyes of mercy toward us;

and after this our exile,

show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.

"Biopsy Results Returned 100% Benign"

I recited this novena every day before my surgery and lit a 7-day vigil candle. The peace that entered my heart the night before was inexplicable. Two days later, my oncologist called to say the biopsy came back completely benign. Glory to God!

My eldest son had not spoken to our family for over 4 years. We offered a Holy Mass intention for him on his birthday and united in prayer on this wall. Two weeks later, he knocked on our front door asking for forgiveness. God never abandons a praying mother.
