O Crucified Savior Jesus Christ,
Thou who didst hang upon the wood of Calvary with nails tearing through Thy flesh,
knowing every spasm of physical agony, thirst, and exhaustion:
Thou knowest that my body is in pain again today.
The medications fail to bring relief; the doctors are baffled;
and the unrelenting ache in my joints, nerves, and limbs wears down my spirit.
I am tempted to anger, to self-pity, and to ask: "Why me, Lord?"
Jesus, take my pain into Thine own pierced hands.
Do not let this suffering be wasted in bitter despair.
By an act of my will, I unite my throbbing body to Thy Holy Cross,
offering it for the salvation of sinners, the conversion of my family, and the relief of souls in purgatory.
Give me supernatural patience for the next ten minutes, the next hour, this day.
Remind me that this earthly body of dust is passing away,
and that Thou hast prepared for me an incorruptible, radiant body in the Resurrection,
where pain, disease, and tears shall be no more.
Saint Alphonsa, sister in suffering, pray for me! Amen.
