Physical & Spiritual Healing
Catholic Prayers for Healing, Health & Physical Recovery
Catholic tradition recognizes Christ as the Divine Physician who ministers to our bodily and spiritual illnesses. When we pray for healing, we surrender our pain to the Cross, asking for physical restoration while uniting our suffering with the Passion of Christ for our sanctification.
“Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.”
— Jeremiah 17:14

Understanding Prayer for Healing & Health
Which Catholic saints are invoked for healing?
St. Raphael the Archangel ("God heals"), St. Peregrine Laziosi (patron of cancer patients), St. Agatha (diseases of the breast), and St. Camillus de Lellis (patron of the sick and hospitals) are among the most revered intercessors for health.
How should a Catholic pray when healing does not happen immediately?
Catholics pray with steadfast trust that God hears every petition. Unanswered prayers for physical recovery are embraced through redemptive suffering, asking for spiritual strength, holy patience, and eternal salvation.
Is it appropriate to ask a priest for the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick?
Yes. Anyone facing serious illness, major surgery, advanced age, or a medical crisis is encouraged to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick for spiritual comfort and bodily strength.
