Crisis & Hospital Prayers

Catholic Prayer on the Morning of Major Surgery

Liturgical Setting, Posture & Origins

📜 Scriptural Anchor: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9

🕯️ Liturgical Setting & Posture: Pray while lying on the hospital bed or sitting in the pre-op staging room. Make a devout Sign of the Cross over your forehead, lips, and heart.

Lord Jesus Christ, Divine Physician and gentle Comforter of the afflicted, I place myself entirely into Thy merciful hands this morning.

As I prepare to undergo this surgery, I surrender to Thee every anxiety, every fearful thought, and every uncertainty regarding the outcome. Thou art the Master of life and health; my body is Thy temple, and my life is held securely within Thy loving providence.

I pray for the surgeons, the anesthesiologist, the operating nurses, and all medical staff attending me today. Bless their minds with clarity, their eyes with precision, and their hands with skill and gentleness. May Thy Holy Spirit guide every incision, oversee every monitor, and protect me from all unexpected complications, infections, or excessive pain.

As anesthesia brings me into unconscious rest, let Thy Holy Guardian Angel stand watch over my soul. Keep my heart beating steadily according to Thy holy design, and grant that I may awake restored, with this sickness arrested and healing commenced.

Whether in health or in illness, in life or in death, I belong to Thee. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee. Our Lady of Lourdes, health of the sick, pray for me. St. Luke and St. Raphael, guide the operating room. Amen.

"Biopsy Results Returned 100% Benign"

I recited this novena every day before my surgery and lit a 7-day vigil candle. The peace that entered my heart the night before was inexplicable. Two days later, my oncologist called to say the biopsy came back completely benign. Glory to God!

"Reconciliation with My Estranged Son"

My eldest son had not spoken to our family for over 4 years. We offered a Holy Mass intention for him on his birthday and united in prayer on this wall. Two weeks later, he knocked on our front door asking for forgiveness. God never abandons a praying mother.
