Lord,Though knowest better than I know myselfthat I amgrowing older and will some day be old.Keep me from the fatalhabit of thinking I must say something on every subjectand on every occasion.Release me from craving to straighten outeverybody's affairs.Make me thoughtful but not moody;helpful but not bossy. With my vast store of wisdom, it seems apity not to use it all,but Thou knowest Lord that I want a fewfriends at the end. Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details;give me wing to get to that point.Seal my lips on my aches and pains. They are increasing, and love of rehearsing them isbecoming sweeter as the years go by.I dare not ask for grace enough to enjoy the tales of others' pains, but help me to endurethem with patience. I dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growinghumility and a lessing cocksureness when my memory seems toclash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lessonthat occasionally I may be mistaken. Keep me reasonably sweet; I do not want to be a Saint-some of them are so hard to live with- but a sour old person is oneof the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability to see goodthings in unexpected places, and talents in unexpected people. And, give me, O Lord, the grace to tell them so. - Author Unknown
First Sorrow and Joy O most pure Spouse of Mary, glorious St. Joseph, as the affliction and anguish of thy heart was exceedingly great in thy perplexity, whether thou shouldst abandon thy most unspotted Spouse, so was the joy unspeakable when, by an Angel, the sublime Mystery of the Incarnation was revealed to thee. By this sorrow and joy, we beseech thee that now, and in our last agony, thou mayest comfort our souls by the joy of a good life and a holy death, like thine in the society of Jesus and Mary. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Second Sorrow and Joy O most happy Patriarch, glorious saint Joseph, who wast to fulfill the duty of foster father to the Incarnate Word, thy sorrow in beholding the poverty of the Child Jesus in His birth, was changed immediately into heavenly delight, by hearing the angelic harmony, and by beholding the glory of that most resplendent night. By this thy sorrow and joy, we beseech Thee, that, after the passage of this life, we may in the next hear the angelic praises and enjoy the brightness of eternal glory. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Third Sorrow and Joy O most excellent observer of the divine law, glorious St. Joseph, the most precious Blood which the Divine Infant, our Redeemer, shed in His circumcision, afflicted thy heart: but the Sacred Name of Jesus revived it and replenished it with gladness. By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us, that during our life we may be free from every vice, and may in death joyfully breathe forth our soul with the Most Holy Name of Jesus in our hearts and on our lips. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Fourth Sorrow and Joy O most faithful Saint, who wast admitted to a participation in the Mystery of our Redemption, glorious St. Joseph, if the prophecy of Simeon, concerning what Jesus and Mary were to suffer, gave thee mortal affliction, thou wast likewise filled with holy joy for the salvation and glorious resurrection of innumerable souls, which he likewise foretold. By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us, that we may be among the number of those who, through the merits of Jesus and the intercession of His Virgin Mother, will arise to everlasting glory. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Fifth Sorrow and Joy O Most vigilant guardian and intimate friend of the Incarnate Son of God, glorious St. Joseph, how much didst thou suffer in providing for and serving the Son of the Most High, particulary in the flight thou wast obliged to make into Egypt! But how much also didst thou rejoice in having always with thee the same God, and seeing the Egyptian idols fall prostrate on the ground! By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us, that we may keep at a distance from the infernal tyrant, especially by flying from dangerous occasions, so that the idols of earthly affections may fall from our hearts, and that, being entirely devoted to the service of Jesus and Mary, we may live for them alone, and with them calmly die. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Sixth Sorrow and Joy O angel on earth, glorious St. Joseph, who didst behold, subject to thine orders the King of heaven: although thy joy in conducting Him back was disturbed by the fear of Archilaus, thou wast, nevertheless, comforted by an Angel, and didst dwell in safety with Jesus and Mary at Nazareth. By this thy sorrow and joy, obtain for us, that our hearts being released from hurtful fears, we may enjoy peace of conscience, and live in security with Jesus and Mary, and die in their embraces. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Seventh Sorrow and Joy O model of all sanctity, glorious saint Joseph, having lost the Divine Child without any fault of thine, thou didst seek Him in great sorrow for three days, until at length thou was filled with exceeding gladness on finding Him in the temple amidst the doctors. By this thy sorrow and joy, we beseech Thee, to intercede for us, that we may never lose Jesus by grievous sin, but that, should we have the misfortune to lose Him, we may seek for Him with unwearied sorrow until we have happily found Him: and particularly that we may find Him at the hour of our death, in order to enjoy Him in heaven, and there with thee to sing eternally His divine mercies. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Anthem. - Jesus Himself was beginning His public life about the age of thirty years, being, as it was supposed, the Son of Joseph. V. Pray for us, O saint Joseph. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us Pray. - O God, Who, by Thy wonderful Providence didst vouchsafe to choose St. Joseph to be the spouse of Thy Most Holy Mother; grant, we beseech Thee, that he whom we generate as our protector on earth, may be our intercessor in heaven: Who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen. (Special favours have been obtained by the recitation of the following prayers in honour of St. Joseph: -) O glorious St. Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to you do we raise our hearts and hands to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the benign Heart of Jesus all the helps and graces necessary for our spiritual and temporal welfare; particularly the grace of a happy death, and the special favour we now implore. (Here mention or reflect upon your lawful requests) O Guardian of the Word Incarnate, we feel animated with confidence that your prayers in our behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God. (Say the following versicle seven times, in honour of the seven joys and sorrows of saint Joseph) V. O glorious St. Joseph, through the love you bear to Jesus Christ, and for the glory of His name. R. Hear our prayers, and obtain our petitions.
O my God! I offer Thee all my actions of this day for the intentions and for the glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I desire to sanctify every beat of my heart, my every thought, my simplest works, by uniting them to His infinite merits; and I wish to make reparation for my sins by casting them into the furnace of His merciful love. O my God, I ask of Thee for myself and for those dear to me the grace to fulfill perfectly Thy holy will, to accept, for love of Thee, the joys and sorrows of this passing life, so that we may one day be united together in Heaven for all eternity. Amen.
O Father of mankind, who hast given unto me these my children, and committed them to my charge to bring them up for Thee, and to prepare them for everlasting life: assist me with Thy heavenly grace, that I may be able to fulfil this most sacred duty and stewardship. Teach me both what to give and what to withhold; when to reprove and when to forbear; make me gentle, yet firm; considerate and watchful; and deliver me equally from the weakness of indulgence, and the excess of severity; and grant that, both by word and example, I may be careful to lead them in the ways of wisdom and true pity, so that at last I may, with them, be admitted to the unspeakable joys of our true home in heaven, in the company of the blessed Angels and Saints. Amen.
O glorious St. Joseph, to you God committed the care of His only begotten Son amid the many dangers of this world. We come to you and ask you to take under your special protection the children God has given us. Through holy baptism they became children of God and members of His holy Church. We consecrate them to you today, that through this consecration they may become your foster children. Guard them, guide their steps in life, form their hearts after the hearts of Jesus and Mary. St. Joseph, who felt the tribulation and worry of a parent when the child Jesus was lost, protect our dear children for time and eternity. May you be their father and counsellor. Let them, like Jeus, grow in age as well as in wisdom and grace before God and men. Preserve them from the corruption of his world, and give us the grace one day to be united with them in Heaven forever. Amen
Most merciful God, Father in heaven, relying on Thy goodness and mercy, I come to Thee with filial confidence to confess my sins and to implore Thy forgiveness. Thou wilt not despise a contrite and humble heart. Bless me and receive me again into Thy favour; I acknowledge that I have been most ungrateful to Thee, but I sincerely repent and detest the wrong I have done, and I desire henceforth to walk in the way of perfection in accordance with Thy holy will. O Jesus, my Saviour, my good Shepherd, I have strayed far from the path that Thou hast marked out for me; I did not follow in Thy footsteps; I wandered into forbidden places. Repentant and sorrowful, I beg to be admitted again into the fold of Thy faithful followers. I want to confess my sins with the same sincerity as I should wish to do at the moment of my death. My Jesus, I look to Thee with confidence for the grace to examine my conscience well. O Holy Spirit come in Thy mercy; enlighten my mind and strengthen my will that I may know my sins, humbly confess them, and sincerely amend my life. Mary, my Mother, immaculate Spouse of the Holy Ghost, refuge of sinners, ssist me by thy intercession. Holy angels and saints of God, pray for me. Amen.
Incline, O Lord, Thine ear to our prayers, in which we humbly beseech Thy mercy, that Thou wouldst place the soul of Thy servant, which Thou hast caused to depart from this world, into the region of peace and light; and unite in the fellowship of Thy Saints. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
O dear Jesus, I humbly implore You to grant Your special graces to our family. May our home be the shrine of peace, purity, love, labor and faith. I beg You, dear Jesus, to protect and bless all of us, absent and present, living and dead. O Mary, loving Mother of Jesus, and our Mother, pray to Jesus for our family, for all the families of the world, to guard the cradle of the newborn, the schools of the young and their vocations. Blessed Saint Joseph, holy guardian of Jesus and Mary, assist us by your prayers in all the necessities of life. Ask of Jesus that special grace which He granted to you, to watch over our home at the pillow of the sick and the dying, so that with Mary and with you, heaven may find our family unbroken in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Amen.
Absolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant N..., from every bond of sin, that being raised in the glory of the resurrection, he may be refreshed among the Saints and Elect. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
I give thanks to Thee, O Lord, most holy, Father almighty, eternal God, that Thou hast vouchsafed, for no merit of mine own, but out of Thy pure mercy, to appease the hunger of my soul with the precious body and blood of Thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Humbly I implore Thee, let not this holy communion be to me an increase of guilt unto my punishment, but an availing plea unto pardon and salvation. Let it be to me the armour of faith and the shield of good will. May it root out from my heart all vice; may it utterly subdue my evil passions and all my unruly desires. May it perfect me in charity and patience; in humility and obedience; and in all other virtues. May it be my sure defence against the snares laid for me by my enemies, visible and invisible. May it restrain and quiet all my evil impulses, and make me ever cleave to Thee Who art the one true God. May I owe to it a happy ending of my life. And do Thou, O heavenly Father, vouchsafe one day to call me, a sinner, to that ineffable banquet, where Thou, together with Thy Son and the Holy Ghost, art to Thy saints true and unfailing light, fullness of content, joy for evermore, gladness without alloy, consummate and everlasting happiness. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Saint N., in whose honor I have offered the bloodless sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Christ, grant by thy powerful intercession with God, that, by the utility of this mystery, I may obtain the merits of the passion and death of this same Christ our Savior. And with its frequency come to salvation. Amen
LORD, Father all-powerful, and ever-living God, I thank Thee, for even though I am a sinner, Thy unprofitable servant, not because of my worth, but in the kindness of Thy mercy, Thou hast fed me with the precious Body and Blood of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that this holy communion may not bring me condemnation and punishment but forgiveness and salvation. May it be a helmet of faith and a shield of good will. May it purify me from evil ways and put an end to my evil passions. May it bring me charity and patience, humility and obedience, and growth in power to do good. May it be my strong defense against all my enemies, visible and invisible, and the perfect calming of all my evil impulses, bodily and spiritual. May it unite me more closely to Thee, the one true God and lead me safely through death to everlasting happiness with Thee. And I pray that Thou willest lead me, a sinner to the banquet where Thou with Thy Son and Holy Spirit, are true and perfect light, total fulfillment, everlasting joy, gladness without end, and perfect happiness to Thy saints. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, bountiful in forgiving, and lovingly desirous of man's salvation, we humbly beseech Thy mercy in behalf of our friends, relations and benefactors, who have passed from this world, that, through the intercession of Blessed Mary ever Virgin and all the Saints, Thou wouldst permit them to come to the full participation of everlasting happiness. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty and loving Father, I thank you for giving St. Gerard to us as a most appealing model and powerful friend. By his example, he showed us how to love and trust You. You have showered many blessings on those who call upon him. For Your greater glory and my welfare, please grant me the favours which I ask in his name. (Mention your needs here...) And you, my powerful patron, intercede for me before the throne of God. Draw near to that throne and do not leave it until you have been heard. O good saint, to you I address my feverent prayers; graciously accept them and let me experience in some way the effects of your powerful intercession. Amen.
O God of goodness and mercy, to Thy fatherly guidance we commend our family, our household and all our belongings. We commit all to Thy love and keeping; do Thou fill this house with Thy blessings even as Thou didst fill the holy House of Nazareth with Thy presence. Keep far from us, above all else, the blemish of sin, and do Thou alone reign in our midst by Thy law, by Thy most holy love and by the exercise of every Christian virtue. Let each one of us obey Thee, love Thee and set himself to follow in his own life Thine example, that of Mary, Thy Mother and our Mother most loving, and that of Thy blameless guardian, Saint Joseph. Protect us and our house from all evils and misfortunes, but grant that we may be ever resigned to Thy divine will even in the sorrows which it shall please Thee to send us. Finally give unto all of us the grace to live in perfect harmony and in the fullness of love toward our neighbor. Grant that every one of us may deserve by a holy life the comfort of Thy holy Sacraments at the hour of death. O Jesus, bless us and protect us. O Mary, Mother of grace and of mercy, defend us against the wicked spirit, reconcile us with Thy Son, commit us to His keeping, that so we may be made worthy of His promises. Saint Joseph, foster-father of our Savior, guardian of His holy Mother, head of the Holy Family, intercede for us, bless us and defend our home at all times. Saint Michael, defend us against all the evil cunning of hell. Saint Gabriel, make us to understand the holy will of God. Saint Raphael, preserve us from all sickness and from every danger to our lives. Our holy Guardian Angels, keep our feet safely on the path of salvation both day and night. Our holy Patrons, pray for us before the throne of God. Yea, bless this house, O God the Father, who hast created us; O God the Son, who hast suffered for us upon the holy Cross, and Thou, O Holy Spirit, who hast sanctified us in holy Baptism. May the one God in three Divine Persons preserve our bodies, purify our minds, direct our hearts and bring us all to everlasting life. Glory be to the Father, glory be to the Son, glory be to the Holy Ghost! Amen.
O Jesus, who hast loved us with such exceeding great love as to give us the ineffable gift of the Holy Eucharist, inflame us with a burning zeal to promote Thy glory by preparing worthily the little children who are to approach Thy holy table for the first time. Protect, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, these young souls from the assaults of evil, strengthen their faith, increase their love and endow them with all the virtues that will make them worthy to receive Thee. Amen. Saint John the Baptist, forerunner of the Messias, prepare the way for Jesus in the hearts of these children. Saint Tarcisius, keep safe the children who are making their first Communion.
O Almighty God, Who in Thine infinite goodness has sent Thine only-begotten Son into this world to open once more the gates of heaven, and to teach us how to know, love and serve Thee, have mercy on Thy people Who dwell in Wales. Grant to them the precious gift of faith, and unite them in the one true Churchfounded by Thy Divine Son; that, acknowledging her authority and obeying her voice, they may serve Thee, love Thee, and worship Thee as Thou desirest in this world, and obtain for themselves everlasting happiness in the world to come. Through the same Christ our Lord. R. Amen. Our Lady, Help of Christians, pray for Wales. Saint David, pray for Wales. Saint Winefride, pray for Wales.
O God, Come unto my assistance. R. O Lord, make haste to help me. V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the most holy Wound in Thy right Hand. I give Thee thanks for the infinite love, wherewith Thou didst will to suffer so many bitter pains because of my sins which I detest with all my heart; I implore Thee to grant graciously to Thy holy Church victory over all her enemies, and to all her children grace to walk in holiness in the way of Thy commandments. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy left Hand, and I beseech Thee for grace for all poor sinners, for the dying, and especially for those who will not be reconciled to Thee. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy right Foot, and I beg of Thee this grace, that countless flowers of holiness may blossom among the clergy and all those who are consecrated to Thee. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy left Foot, and implore Thee to deliver the holy souls in purgatory, and especially those who in life were most devout toward Thy sacred Wounds. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... My dearest Lord Jesus Crucified, bending low before Thee, with Mary most holy and with all the Angels and Saints in paradise, I adore the sacred Wound in Thy most holy Side, and I pray Thee to bless and graciously hear all those who have recommended themselves to my prayers. Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... V. O Virgin most sorrowful, R. Pray for us (to be repeated three times). My Crucified Jesus, confirm these prayers by the merits of Thy Passion; give me holiness of life, the grace to receive Thy holy Sacraments at the hour of my death, and glory everlasting. Amen.
Merciful Father I am guilty of sin I confess my sins before you and I am sorry for them. Your promises are just; therefore I trust that you will forgive my sins and cleanse me from every stain of sin. Jesus himself is the propitiation for my sins and the sin of the whole world. I put my hope in his atonement. May my sins be forgiven through His name and in His blood may my soul be made clean. New Saint Joseph People's Prayer Book
From the depths of this vale of tears where sorrowing humanity makes weary progress, through the surges of this sea of ours, endlessly buffeted by the winds of passion, we raise our eyes to you, O most beloved Mother Mary, to be comforted by the contemplation of your glory and to hail you as Queen of heaven and earth, Queen of mankind. With legitimate filial pride, we wish to exalt your queenship and to recognize it as due to the sovereign excellence of your whole being, O dearest one, truly mother of him who is King by right, by inheritance and by conquest. Reign, O Mother and Queen, by showing us the path of holiness and by guiding and assisting us that we may never stray from it. In the heights of heaven you exercise your primacy over the choirs of angels who acclaim you as their sovereign, and over the legions of saints who delight in beholding your dazzling beauty. So, too, reign over the entire human race, above all by opening the path of faith to those who do not yet know your Divine Son. Reign over the Church, which acknowledges and extols your gentle dominion and has recourse to you as a safe refuge amid the calamities of our day. Reign especially over that part of the Church which is persecuted and oppressed; give it strength to bear adversity, constancy never to yield under unjust compulsion, light to avoid falling into the snares of the enemy, firmness to resist overt attack, and at every moment unwavering faithfulness to your kingdom. Reign over men's minds, that they may seek only what is true; over their wills, that they may follow solely what is good; over their hearts, that they may love nothing but what you yourself love. Reign over individuals and over families, as well as over societies and nations; over the assemblies of the powerful, the counsels of the wise, as over the simple aspirations of the humble. Reign in the streets and in the squares, in the cities and the villages, in the valleys and in the mountains, in the air, on land and on the sea; and hear the pious prayers of all those who recognize that yours is a reign of mercy, in which every petition is heard, every sorrow comforted, every misfortune relieved, every infirmity healed, and in which, at a gesture from your gentle hands, from death itself there arises smiling life. Obtain for us that all who now in every corner of the world acclaim and hail you Queen and Lady may one day in heaven enjoy the fullness of your kingdom in the vision of your Divine Son, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit, live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
Prelates, Kings, and people of the earth! celebrate the glorious name of Raymund, to whom the salvation of all mankind was an object of loving care. His pure and spotless life reflected all the marvels of the mystic life; and the light of every virtue shines brightly forth in him. With admirable study and research, he collects together the scattered Decrees of the Sovereign Pontiffs, and all the sacred maxims of the ancient Canons, so worthy to be handed down to all ages. He bids the treacherous sea be firm, and on her open waters carry him to land; he spreads his mantle, and his staff the mast, he rides upon the waves.
Angels, Archangels, Thrones, Dominations, Principalities, Powers, celestial Virtues, Cherubim and Seraphim; all Saints of God, holy men and women, and you especially, my patrons: deign to plead for me that I may have grace to offer worthily this sacrifice to almighty God, to the praise and glory of His Name, for my own welfare also and that of all His holy Church. Amen.
O Jesus, who in the very first days of Thine earthly life wast compelled, together with Mary, Thy loving Mother, and Saint Joseph, to leave Thy native land and to endure in Egypt the misery and discomforts of poor emigrants, turn Thine eyes upon our brethren, who, far away from their dear country and from all that is dear to them, are not infrequently constrained to struggle with the difficulties of a new life, and who are likewise often exposed to grave dangers and snares for their immortal souls. Be Thou their guide in their uncertain journey, their help in trouble, their comfort in sorrow; keep them safe in their faith, holy in their lives, and faithful to their children, their wives, and their parents; grant, O Lord, that we may be able to embrace them affectionately once more in their native land, and hereafter to live inseparably united to them at the foot of Thy throne in our heavenly country. Amen.
Govern by all Thy Wisdom, O Lord, so that my soul may always be serving Thee as Thou dost Will, and not as I may choose. Do not punish me, I beseech Thee, by granting that which I wish or ask if it offended Thy Love, which would always live in me. Let me die to myself, so that I may love Thee. Let me live to Thee, Who art in Thyself, the True Life. Dear St. Therese, guide me in your Little Way, so that I may ascend to the heights and happiness of Heaven.
Dear Saints Isaac Jogues, John Brebeuf, Noel Chabanel, Gabriel Lalemant, Anthony Daniel, Charles Garnier, Rene Goupil and John Lalande, we beg of you, pray for the people of this vast country ours. You are the first canonized saints of the United States and Canada. We are glad to have you. We are happy to honor you. You know our country and its needs, and we know you are in heaven praying for us. There is one very special favor we wish to ask of you. Dear Saints of North America, pray God to send us another saint, or better still, a number of them. Ask Him to have soon--a man or a woman, a boy or a girl from this country of ours raised to the honors of the altar. Let it be a farmer or a laborer, a housewife or a schoolboy, born and bred in these United States. Let it be some one who lived his whole life here--a Saint Joseph of Carville County, or a Saint Mary of Middletown, or a Saint William of New York. We do not wish to displace you in our affections, but to add to your glorious number. You understand our desires in this, and we feel sure that we will obtain this great blessing for the salvation of the people of this land. Remember us now, and obtain this great blessing for us from God. Help us always to cooperate with the graces that God so richly and generously gives us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty God We stand before you in supplication, Asking Your Divine mercy and protection, To envelop with Your invincible armor, Our loved ones in all branches of the service. Give them courage and strength Against all enemies, Both spiritual and physical, And hasten their safe journey, Back to their homes and families. If it be Your Holy Will That they be gathered to Your bosom, With the eternal vanguard of the saints, Let their journey to Your everlasting arms Be swift and painless, Where they may stand in honor and glory, Praising You for all eternity. Amen.
That day of wrath, that dreadful day, shall heaven and earth in ashes lay, as David and the Sybil say. What horror must invade the mind when the approaching Judge shall find and sift the deeds of all mankind! The mighty trumpet's wondrous tone shall rend each tomb's sepulchral stone and summon all before the Throne. Now death and nature with surprise behold the trembling sinners rise to meet the Judge's searching eyes. Then shall with universal dread the Book of Consciences be read to judge the lives of all the dead. For now before the Judge severe all hidden things must plain appear; no crime can pass unpunished here. O what shall I, so guilty plead? and who for me will intercede? when even Saints shall comfort need? O King of dreadful majesty! grace and mercy You grant free; as Fount of Kindness, save me! Recall, dear Jesus, for my sake you did our suffering nature take then do not now my soul forsake! In weariness You sought for me, and suffering upon the tree! let not in vain such labor be. O Judge of justice, hear, I pray, for pity take my sins away before the dreadful reckoning day. You gracious face, O Lord, I seek; deep shame and grief are on my cheek; in sighs and tears my sorrows speak. You Who did Mary's guilt unbind, and mercy for the robber find, have filled with hope my anxious mind. How worthless are my prayers I know, yet, Lord forbid that I should go into the fires of endless woe. Divorced from the accursed band, o make me with Your sheep to stand, as child of grace, at Your right Hand. When the doomed can no more flee from the fires of misery with the chosen call me. Before You, humbled, Lord, I lie, my heart like ashes, crushed and dry, assist me when I die. Full of tears and full of dread is that day that wakes the dead, calling all, with solemn blast to be judged for all their past. Amen. Lord, have mercy, Jesus blest, grant them all Your Light and Rest. Amen.
Father, all of Creation rightly owes you thanks and praise. Your justice, love and mercy abound. We thank you this day for all that you have given us: For the Passion and Death of your Divine Son, we thank you Father, through the Cross, He redeemed the world. For the Church, we thank you Father, it is our beacon for salvation. For the martyrs and saints who give testimony to your Son, we thank you Father, their witness to your Son is our inheritance. For our loved ones and friends who have died and gone before us, we thank you Father, their love abides with us forever. For loving spouses, we thank you Father, together we seek you. For the gift of children, we thank you Father, they are your precious gifts to us and to the world. For the gift of our families, loved ones and good friends, we thank you Father, Through them we see the reflection of your Son. For jobs, our homes and all that we have, we thank you Father, give us only that which we need, as we seek Your Kingdom. For the bounty we are about to eat, we thank you through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Pray, then, O holy Martyr, for the Faithful, who are so persevering in celebrating thy memory. The day of Judgment will reveal to us all thy glorious merits. Oh! intercede for us, that we may then be made thy companions at the right hand of the Great Judge, and be united with thee eternally in heaven. Antiphon: This Saint fought, even unto death, for the law of his God, and feared not the words of the wicked; for he was set upon a firm rock. Let us pray: Grant, we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that we who solemnize the festival of blessed Valentine, Thy Martyr, may, by his intercession, be delivered from all the evils that threaten us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
My Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, I adore Thee with every fibre of my being! I adore Thee at every instant of time. I adore Thee in union with the Immaculate Heart of our Blessed Mother, Mary, in union with the pure Heart Of St. Joseph, in union with all Thy Angels and Saints in the Glory Of Heaven, in union with Thy just on earth, in union with the souls in purgatory. With this tribute of adoration I wish to adore Thee for all who do not adore Thee, to love Thee for all who love Thee not, to acknowledge Thee to be my God, for all who refuse to acknowledge Thee. Amen.
O Jesus, our most loving Redeemer, Who didst come into the world to enlighten it by Thy teaching and by Thy example, and Who didst will to pass the greater part of Thy mortal life in the poor cottage at Nazareth, in humble subjection to Mary and Joseph, thus sanctifying that Family which was to be the model of all Christian families; graciously receive this family which dedicates and consecrates itself to Thee this day. Do Thou protect us, do Thou watch over us! Do Thou bestow upon us Thy holy fear, peace, concord, and Christian love; that so, by the imitation of Thy family as our pattern and model, we may each and all obtain everlasting happiness. O Mary, loving Mother of Jesus and our Mother, by thy gracious intercession make this humble dedication acceptable to Jesus and obtain for us His graces and blessings. Saint Joseph, holy guardian of Jesus and Mary, assist us by thy prayers in all our spiritual and temporal necessities; so that, with Mary and with thee, we may for all eternity bless and thank our Divine Redeemer, Jesus. Amen.
O Good and merciful Saint Anne, in order to honour you with more zeal, and pray to you with more confidence, I come to consecrate myself to you, for time and for eternity. Hence I choose you, after the most Blessed Virgin, for my spiritual mother, and my protectress before God. I place in your keep my body and my soul, my temporal needs and my eternal interests. I consecrate my mind to you, that you may enlighten me in all things, with the light of faith; my heart, that you may keep it full of love for Jesus and Mary; my will, that you may forever keep it subsmissive to that of God; and my body, that you may make it forever the temple of the Holy Ghost. Obtain for me, O Good Saint Anne, the grace to fulfil faithfully, after your example, all the duties of my state of life and to practise, like you, all the virtues necessary to my salvation. Grant that after having honoured and loved you on earth, O dear and Good Saint Anne, I may one day go to glorify you, with God, Mary, the saints and the angels, during all eternity. Amen.
O dearest Saint Joseph, I consecrate myself to your honor and give myself to you, that you may always be my father, my protector and my guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me a greater purity of heart and fervent love of the interior life. After your example may I do all my actions for the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. O Blessed Saint Joseph, pray for me, that I may share in the peace and joy of your holy death. Amen.
I. I venerate thee with all my heart, O Virgin most holy, above all Angels and Saints in paradise, as the daughter of the Eternal Father, and to thee I consecrate my soul with all its powers. Hail Mary... II. I venerate thee with all my heart, O Virgin most holy, above all Angels and Saints in paradise, as the Mother of the only begotten Son, and to thee I consecrate my body with all its senses. Hail Mary... III. I venerate thee with all my heart, O Virgin most holy, above all Angels and Saints in paradise, as the beloved Spouse of the Spirit of God, and to thee I consecrate my heart and all its affections, imploring thee to obtain for me from the Most Holy Trinity all the means of salvation. Hail Mary...
O Jesus, our most loving Redeemer, who having come to enlighten the world with Thy teaching and example, didst will to pass the greater part of Thy life in humility and subjection to Mary and Joseph in the poor home of Nazareth, thus sanctifying the Family that was to be an example for all Christian families, graciously receive our family as it dedicates and consecrates itself to Thee this day. Do Thou protect us, guard us and establish aongst us Thy holy fear, true peace and concord in Christian love: in order that by living according to the divine pattern of Thy family we may be able, all of us without exception, to attain to eternal happiness. Mary, dear Mother of Jesus and Mother of us, by the kindly intercession make this our humble offering acceptable in the sight of Jesus, and obtain for us His graces and blessings. O Saint Joseph, most holy Guardian of Jesus and Mary, help us by thy prayers in all our spiritual and temporal needs; that so we may be enabled to praise our divine Savior Jesus, together with Mary and thee, for all eternity. (Recite the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory 3 times.) Amen. (An indulgence of 500 days. A plenary indulgence on the usual conditions, if this prayer is repeated with devotion every day for a month.)
Blood of Jesus, inebriate me! O Jesus, my Beloved SavioUr, ever present in the Tabernacle, to be the strength, the joy and the food of souls, I come to consecrate myself to Thy Precious Blood, and to pledge Thee my sincere love and fidelity. Pierced with sorrow at the remembrance of Thy sufferings, the contemplation of the Cross, and the thought of the outrages and contempt lavished by ungrateful souls upon Thy dear Blood, I long, O my Jesus, to bring joy to Thy Heart, and to make Thee forget my sins, and those of the whole world, by consecrating my body and soul to Thy service. I desire, my Jesus, to live henceforth, only by Thy Blood and for Thy Blood. I now choose It as my greatest treasure and the dearest object of my love. O merciful Redeemer, deign to regard me as a perpetual adorer of Thy Most Precious Blood, and be pleased to accept my prayers, my deeds and my sacrifices, as so many acts of reparation and love. Heavenly Wine, giver of purity and strength, pour down upon my soul. Make of my heart a living chalice from which grace shall constantly flow on those that love Thee, and especially on poor sinners that offend Thee. Teach me to honour Thee and to make Thee honoured by others. Give me power to draw to Thee cold and hardened hearts, that they may feel how infinitely Thy consolations surpass those of the world. O Blood of my Crucified Saviour, detach me from the world, and the spirit of the world. Make me love suffering and sacrifice, after the example of St. Catherine of Sienna, who loved Thee so much [and whom I choose again today as my special patroness]. O Precious Blood, be my strength amid the trials and struggles of exile. Grant that at the hour of death I may be able to bless Thee for having been the comfort and the sanctification of my soul, before becoming, in Heaven, the everlasting object of my love and praise. Saints of God, who owe thy happiness to the Blood of Jesus; Angelic spirits, who sing Its glory and power, august Virgin, who to It owest the privileges of thine Immaculate Conception and Divine Maternity, help me to pay to the Precious Blood of my Redeemer a perpetual homage of adoration, reparation and thanksgiving. Amen.
Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man. Blessed be the Name of Jesus. Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart. Blessed be His Most Precious Blood. Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Blessed be Mary, the Most Holy Mother of God. Blessed be her holy and immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the Name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints.
My good Jesus, I believe with a firm and lively faith that in this adorable sacrament are Thy body and blood, soul and divinity. I believe that in this consecrated Host I shall receive that same body which was born of the most pure Virgin Mary in Bethlehem, which suffered so many pains and torments for love of me on the Way of the Cross and on Calvary, and which rose gloriously the third day from the dead. I believe that I shall receive God Himself. I adore Thee, O my God, as my Creator, my Preserver, my Redeemer, and my Judge, truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Divine Host, I adore Thee with the angels who fill the sanctuary and hover over the tabernacle as they hovered over the cave of Bethlehem in the Holy Night; I adore Thee, my God, with the Blessed Virgin, and in union with all the saints. Lord and Master of the universe, Who hast fixed Thy dwelling amongst men, I adore Thee with profound gratitude. O my Jesus, bless this temple wherein Thou residest, but still more the heart that I offer Thee as a living abode and place of rest. Deign ever to inhabit it by Thy grace and Thy love, and may my sins never banish Thee from it! Lord, I have a firm faith, but do Thou strengthen my faith, and animate it so that it may produce in my soul deeper sentiments of adoration and love. Good Lord, increase my faith that I may love Thee more, and be more generous in my sacrifices for love of Thee and for the love of my neighbours. Amen.
O my God, the true and only love of my soul, what more couldst Thou do to induce me to love Thee! Thou wast not content with dying for me; Thou didst wish to institute this holy Sacrament, to give Thyself entirely to me, and thus unite Thy whole Heart to the heart of a creature so vile and ungrateful as I am. And what is more, Thou Thyself dost invite me to receive Thee; Thou dost ardently desire that I should receive Thee. O infinite love! incromprehensible love! a God wishes to give Himself to me! My soul, dost thou believe all this? What are thou doing, or what hast thou to say? O God, infinitely amiable, the only object worthy of all love, I love Thee with my whole heart; I love Thee above all things; I love Thee more than myself - more than my life! Oh, that I could see Thee loved by all! Oh, that I could make all hearts love Thee, at much as Thou dost desire! I love Thee, O most amiable God; and in loving Thee, I unite my miserable heart to the heart of Seraphim, to the heart of most holy Mary, and to the Heart of Jesus Thy most holy Son. Thus I love Thee, O infinite Goodness, with the love with which the Saints, with which Jesus and Mary love Thee. Amen.
O my Divine Jesus, how shall I return You thanks for the goodness in giving Yourself to me? The only way I can repay Your love is by loving You in return. Yes, my Lord, I love You, and I desire to love You all my life. My Jesus, You alone are sufficient for me. Whom shall I love, if I love not You, my Jesus? You love those who love You. I love you. Oh, do You also love me. If I love You but little, give me the love which You require of me. O Mary, my good Mother, and You glorious Saint Joseph, lend me your love wherewith to love my Jesus. Amen.
Oh, that I could love Thee, Jesus, as if I had knelt at Thy feet and felt the touch of Thy hand on my brow, and heard Thy gentle voice that uttered absolutions and gave encouragement to the sick and the unfortunate. Oh, that I could love Thee, as the poor of Galilee loved Thee, as Mary Magdalen loved Thee, as Saint Peter and Saint John, the beloved disciple, loved Thee, as she, who knew Thee best, Thy blessed Mother, loved Thee, and, most of all, O Lord, as Thou hast loved me. Let me at least love Thee with all my heart and soul and mind and strength. And let my love be worthy of the name, showing itself by confidence, by generosity, by sacrifice, acknowledging cheerfully that all Thy dispensations are best for me, counting no cost when I work for Thee, Giving up gladly what is dear to me when Thou dost ask it, when it will to serve Thee better and to further the interests of Thy Sacred Heart. Dispose of me, O Lord, as Thou pleasest; for from henceforth I am entirely Thine. I offer Thee all that I am and all that I have. I shall labour and suffer for Thy glory, for the salvation of others, and for my own sanctification. Come, my Jesus, crucified for love of me. Come, dear Jesus, in the sacrament of Thy love, and be Thou all mine, as I desire to be all Thine. O blessed Virgin, my tender Mother, who didst obtain from thy divine Son a wonderful miracle at the wedding-feast at Cana, behold my misery and the need I have of thy assistance; obtain for me of Jesus a prodigy of His almighty power, that my coldness and tepidity may be changed into ardent charity. Amen.
Give me Yourself, O my God, give Yourself to me. Behold I love You, and if my love is too weak a thing, grant me to love You more strongly. I cannot measure my love to know how much it falls short of being sufficient, but let my soul hasten to Your embrace and never be turned away until it is hiddeen in the secret shelter of Your presence. This only do I know, that it is not good for me when You are not with me, when You are only outside me. I want You in my very self. All the plenty in the world which is not my God is utter want. Amen.
O Jesus, merciful Saviour, relying on Thy infinite goodness, I hope to obtain through this holy communion all the graces of which I stand in need for my greater sanctification and eternal salvation. Begging Thy pardon for all the transgressions of my past life, I first of all beseech Thee to give me the grace that I may never again fall into any mortal sin. I would rather be dead than live a moment without Thy grace and Thy love. But Thou, O Lord, knowest how weak I am and how prone to evil. Do Thou strengthen me by Thy grace that I may be faithful in doing Thy will. Thou canst heal all the evils of my soul since Thou art its true Physician, who givest me Thy body and blood in this Blessed Sacrament as a sovereign medicine for all my infirmities. Dispel the darkness of ignorance from my understanding by Thy heavenly light; banish the corruption and malice of my will by the fire of Thy divine love; subdue in me all evil passions and help me especially to overcome my predominant fault; stand by me in all temptations of the devil, the world, and the flesh, that I may not fall into their snares. Increase my faith, and grant that in my daily life I may be guided by Thy example and the maxims of Thy holy Gospel. Teach me to be poor in spirit; to place no value upon the world's transitory pleasures and honours; to be meek and humble of heart and in patience to possess my soul; to love Thee more and more and to walk always in Thy presence; to be kind and generous to my neighbour; to strive earnestly to advance every day in holiness and perfection. May Thy holy will be accomplished in me. Grant me, above all, the grace of final perseverance; that I may become a saint. O Mary, immaculate Mother of God! All ye angels and saints of heaven! Unite your prayers with mine as you stand before the throne of Divine grace, and, above all, pray that I may be united with you in loving, praising and enjoying God for all eternity. Amen.
O sweet Jesus, Whose overflowing charity for me is requited by so much forgetfulness, negligence and contempt, behold us prostrate before Your altar (in Your presence) eager to repair by a special act of homage the cruel indifference and injuries, to which Your loving Heart is everywhere subject. Mindful alas! that we ourselves have had a share in such great indignities, which we now deplore from the depths of our hearts, we humbly ask Your pardon and declare our readiness to atone by voluntary expiation not only for our own personal offenses, but also for the sins of those, who, straying far from the path of salvation, refuse in their obstinate infidelity to follow You, their Shepherd and Leader, or, renouncing the vows of their baptism, have cast off the sweet yoke of Your Law. We are now resolved to expiate each and every deplorable outrage committed against You; we are determined to make amends for the manifold offenses against Christian modesty in unbecoming dress and behavior, for all the foul seductions laid to ensnare the feet of the innocent, for the frequent violations of Sundays and holidays, and the shocking blasphemies uttered against You and Your Saints. We wish also to make amends for the insults to which Your Vicar on earth and Your priest are subjected, for the profanation, by conscious neglect or terrible acts of sacrilege, of the very Sacrament of Your Divine Love; and lastly for the public crimes of nations who resist the rights and teaching authority of the Church which You have founded. Would, O divine Jesus, we were able to wash away such abominations with our blood. We now offer, in reparation for these violations of Your divine honor, the satisfaction You once made to Your eternal Father on the cross and which You continue to renews daily on our altars; we offer it in union with the acts of atonement of Your Virgin Mother and all the Saints and of the pious faithful on earth; and we sincerely promise to make recompense, as far as we can with the help of Your grace, for all neglect of Your great love and for the sins we and others have committed in the past. Henceforth we will live a life of unwavering faith, of purity of conduct, of perfect observance of the precepts of the gospel and especially that of charity. We promise to the best of our power to prevent others from offending You and to bring as many as possible to follow You. O loving Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our model in reparation, deign to receive the voluntary offering we make of this act of expiation; and by the crowning gift of perseverance keep us faithful unto death in our duty and the allegiance we owe to You, so that we may one day come to that happy home, where You with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, God, world without end. Amen.
(INDULGENCES: 5 years, each time - 2. Plenary, once a month, on the ordinary conditions, if the prayer is said every day for a month.) On the Feast of the Sacred Heart: (1. O most merciful Father, who hast so loved me as to give me Thine Only-begotten Son for my food and drink, and with Him all things, look upon the Face of Thine Anointed, in whom Thou art well pleased. This Thy Beloved Son, and with Him my heart, I offer and present to Thee for all the blessings Thou hast this day given me. Mayest Thou, O Father, be now well pleased in Him, and through Him turn away Thine indignation from me. Behold the One Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, my Advocate and High-Priest, Who intercedes for me. Him do I offer and plead before Thee, who committed no sin, but bore the sins of the world, and by whose stripes we are healed. Accept, therefore, O Holy Father, this Unspotted Victim, to the honour and glory of Thy name, in thanksgiving for all the blessings Thou hast ever bestowed upon me, for the remission also of my sins, and for the supply of all my defects and shortcomings. O Blessed Virgin, Mother of my God and Saviour, present my petitions to thy Son. O all ye Angels and Saints, citizens of heaven, join also your prayers with mine. Ye stand always before the Throne, and see Him face to face, whom I here receive under veils. Be ever mindful of me, and obtain from Him and through Him that with you I may bless Him and love Him for ever. Amen.

(INDULGENCES: 5 years, each time - 2. Plenary, once a month, on the ordinary conditions, if the prayer is said every day for a month.) On the Feast of the Sacred Heart: (1. An INDULGENCE of seven years, when it is recited conjointly with the Litany of the Sacred Heart and before the exposed Blessed Sacrament. - 2. Plenary, if added the usual conditions. - Pen., 18 March 1932.) O sweet Jesus, Whose overflowing charity for men is requited by so much forgetfulness, negligence and contempt, behold us prostrate before Thy altar eager to repair by a special act of homage the cruel indifference and injuries, to which Thy loving Heart is everywhere subject. Mindful alas! that we ourselves have had a share in such great indignities, which we now deplore from the depths of our hearts, we humbly ask Thy pardon and declare our readiness to atone by voluntary expiation not only for our own personal offenses, but also for the sins of those, who, straying far from the path of salvation, refuse in their obstinate infidelity to follow Thee, their Shepherd and Leader, or, renouncing the vows of their baptism, have cast off the sweet yoke of Thy law. We are now resolved to expiate such and every deploreable outrage committed against Thee; we are determined to make amends for the manifold offenses against Christian modesty in unbecoming dress and behaviour, - for all the foul seductions laid to ensnare the feet of the innocent, - for the frequent violation of Sundays and holidays, and the shocking blasphemies uttered against Thee and Thy Saints. We wish also to make amends for the insults to which Thy Vicar earth and Thy priests are subjected, - for the profanation, by conscious neglect or terrible acts of sacrilege, of the very Sacrament of Thy divine love; and lastly for the public crimes of nations who resist the rights and the teaching authority of the Church which Thou hast founded. Would, O Divine Jesus, we were able to wash away such abominations with our blood! We now offer, in reparation for these violations of Thy divine honour, the satisfaction Thou didst once make to Thine eternal Father on the cross and which Thou does continue to renew daily on our altars; we offer it in union with the acts of atonement of Thy Virgin Mother and all the Saints and of the pious faithful on earth; and we sincerely promise to make recompense, as far as we can with the help of Thy grace, for all neglect of Thy great love and for the sins we and others have committed in the past. Henceforth we will live a life of unwavering faith, of purity of conduct, of perfect observance of the precepts of the gospel and especially that of charity. We promise to the best of our power to prevent others from offending Thee and to bring as many as possible to follow Thee. O loving Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary our model in reparation, deign to receive the voluntary offering we make of this act of expiation; and by the crowning gift of perseverance keep us faithful unto death in our duty and the allegiance we owe to Thee, so that we may all one day come to that happy home, where Thou with the Father and the Holy Ghost livest and reignest God, world without end. Amen.

The entire service is either sung or chanted, preferably sung, to traditional melodies. If the melodies are unknown, a chanting 'recto tono' will suffice, though much of the grandeur will be lost. This is an Eastern Catholic Devotion to Mary [Leader]: Blessed is our God, always, now and forevermore. Amen. O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, You are everywhere presetn and fit all things. Treasury of blessings, and giver of life, come and dwell within us, cleanse us of all stain, and save our souls, O Gracious one! Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy and Immortal one, have mercy on us. (Three times) O most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us! O Lord, cleanse us of our sins! O Master, forgive our transgressions! O holy one, come to us and heal our infirmities for your name's sake! Lord, have mercy. (Three times) Glory be to the father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit , now and ever, and forever, Amen. Our father who art in heaven , hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and glory, Father+, son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen Let Us Pray To The Lord. [Response]: Lord, have mercy! PREAMBLE As soon as the angel had received his command, he hastened to Joseph's house and said to the ever-virgin: "Behold, heaven was brought down to earth when the Word Himself was fully contained in you! Now that I see Him in your womb, taking a servant's form, I cry out to you in wonder: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure!" FIRST CHANT An Archangel was sent from heaven to greet the Mother of God, and as he saw you assuming a body at the sound of his bodiless voice, O Lord, he stood rapt in amazement and cried out to her in these words: Hail, O you, through whom Joy will shine forth! Hail, O you, through whom the curse will disappear! Hail, O Restoration of the Fallen Adam! Hail, O Redemption of the Tears of Eve! Hail, O Peak above the reach of human thought! Hail, O Depth even beyond the sight of angels! Hail, O you who have become a Kingly Throne! Hail, O you who carry Him Who Carries All! Hail, O Star who manifest the Sun! Hail, O Womb of the Divine Incarnation! Hail, O you through whom creation is renewed! Hail, O you through whom the Creator becomes a Babe! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION Knowing that she was a virgin, the blessed one courageously answered the angel: "Your surprising words seem hard for my mind to accept: how can you speak of a birth that is to come from a conception without seed? And why do you cry, Alleluia?" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! SECOND CHANT Trying to grasp the meaning of this mystery, the Virgin asked the holy messenger: "How is it possible tha a son be born from a virginal womb? Tell me." And he answered her with awe, crying out in these words: Hail, O hidden Sense of the Ineffable Plan! Hail, O Belief in Silence That Must Be! Hail, O Forecast of the Marvels of Christ! Hail, O Fountainhead of truths concerning Him! Hail, Celestial Ladder, by whom God came down! Hail, O Bridge leading earthly ones to heaven! Hail, O Wonder, ever-thrilling to the angels! Hail, O Wound, ever-hurting to the demons! Hail, O you who gave birth to Light ineffably! Hail, O you who told no one how it was done! Hail, O you who surpass the wisdom of the wise! Hail, O you who enlighten faithful minds! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION When the power of the Most High overshadowed the one who had never known the nuptial bed, her fruitful womb conceived, and she became for all a delicious field: for those who wished to reap salvation by singing "ALLELUIA!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! THIRD CHANT Pregnant with God, the Virgin hastened to Elizabeth, her unborn child rejoiced, immediately knowing her embrace. Bouncing and singing, he cried out to the Mother of God: Hail, O Tendril whose Bud shall not wilt! Hail, O Soil whose Fruit shall not perish! Hail, O Tender of mankind's loving Tender! Hail, O Gardener of the Gardener of Life! Hail, O Earth who yielded abundant mercies! Hail, O Table full-laden with appeasement! Hail, for you have greened anew the pastures of delight! Hail, for you have prepared a haven for the souls! Hail, acceptable Incense of Prayer! Hail, Expiation of the whole universe! Hail, O you Favor of God to mortal men! Hail, O you Trust of mortals before God! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION Filled with a storm of contradictory thoughts, the wise Joseph was greatly disturbed: until then, he had seen you a virgin, and now he suspected you of secret guilt, all-blameless one! Learning that your conception was of the Holyl Spirit, he cried out: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! FOURTH CHANT The Shepherds heard the angels singing hymns of praise tot he coming of Christ in the Flesh. And running to Him as to a shepherd, they saw Him as a spotless lamb, grazing at Mary's breast. They sang a hymn to her and said: Hail, O Mother of Lamb and Shepherd! Hail, O Fold of rational sheep! Hail, O Protection against unseen foes! Hail, O Key to the Doors of Paradise! Hail, for the heavenly rejoice with the earth! Hail, for the earthly meet the heavens in song! Hail, the Unsilenced Voice of the Apostles! Hail, the Undaunted Might of Martyrs! Hail, O Steadfast Foundation of Faith! Hail, O Shining Emblem of Grace! Hail, O you through whom death was despoiled! Hail, O you through whom we were clothed with glory! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION When they saw the Star moved by God, the Magi followed its glittering light. Using it as a beacon, they found through it the Mighty King, and reaching the One Beyond All Reach, they rejoiced and cried out to Him: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! FIFTH CHANT The Sons of Chaldaea saw in the Virgin's hands the One whose hands had fashioned men: and acknowledging Him as the Master, although He had taken the form of a servant, they hastened to honor Him with their gifts and cried out to the Blessed One: Hail, O Mother of the Star Without Setting! Hail, O Radiance of the Mystical Day! Hail, O you who quenched the flame of error! Hail, O Light of those who search the Trinity! Hail, O you who unthroned the Enemy of Men! Hail, O you who showed forth Christ the Lord, Lover of Mankind! Hail, O you who cleansed us from the stain of pagan worship! Hail, O you who saved us from the mire of evil deeds! Hail, O you who made cease the cult of fire! Hail, O you who guide the faithful toward wisdom! Hail, O you, Delight of all the Nations! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION The Magi, become God-bearing heralds, returned to Babylon, conforming to your command, announcing You, the Christ, to all, and leaving Herod as a fool who did not know how to sing: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! SIXTH CHANT Illuminating Egypt with the Light of Truth, you cast away the darkness of error. For the idols, unable to stand your might, fell down, and those who had been delivered from them cried out to the Mother of God: Hail, O Resurrection of mankind! Hail, O Downfall of the Demons! Hail, O you who crushed the error of deceit! Hail, O you who exposed the fraud of idols! Hail, O Sea who drowned the symbolic Pharaon! Hail, O Rock who quenched those who thirst for Life! Hail, O Pillar of Fire who guided those in darkness! Hail, O Shelter of the World, wider than the clouds! Hail, O Food who took the place of Manna! Hail, O Handmaid of holy delight! Hail, O Land of the promised good! Hail, O you who flow with milk and honey! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION As Simeon was about to leave the present deceitful world, You were entrusted to him as an infant, but You made Yourself known to him as the perfect God. Whereforre he marveled at your wisdom beyond words, and cried out: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! SEVENTH CHANT The Creator displayed a new creation to us who had come from Him: He came forth from a womb that had received no seed, and He left it intact as it had been, so that at the sight of this marvel, we would sing to her and cry out: Hail, O Blossom of Incorruption! Hail, O Crown of Self-mastery! Hail, O you who shone forth as a Sign of Resurrection! Hail, O you who displayed the Life of Angels! Hail, Fruitful Tree from whom believers feed! Hail, Shady Glen where many are sheltered! Hail, O you who have born the Guide of the Lost! Hail, Source of Life to the captives' Release! Hail, O you who unsettled even the Just Judge! Hail, Indulgence of many who have fallen! Hail, O Stole for those who lack freedom to speak! Hail, O Tenderness who exceed all desire! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION Now that we have seen this strange birth, let us estrange ourselves from the world and turn our minds to heaven: indeed, it is for this that the God Most High appeared on earth as a lowly man, desiring to draw up to heaven those who cry out to Him: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! EIGHTH CHANT While fully present amid those below, the uncircumscribed Word was in no way absent from those above: for what happened was a divine condescension, and not a moving from one place to another: and it was a birth from a Virgin inspired by God, who heard these words: Hail, O Space of the Spaceless God! Hail, O Gate of the Sublime Mystery! Hail, O Message unsure to men without faith! Hail, O Glory most certain to those who believe! Hail, O Sacred Chariot of the One above the Cherubim! Hail, Perfect Dwelling of the One above the Seraphim! Hail, O you who reconciled opposites! Hail, O you who combined maidenhood and motherhood! Hail, O you through whom Paradise was opened! Hail, O Key to the Kingdom of Christ! Hail, O Hope for the Ages of Bliss! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION The whole order of the Angels marveled at the great work of your becoming a man: for they saw the One Inaccessible as God become a Man accessible to all, living with us and hearing us cry out: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! NINTH CHANT O Mother of God, we see the best of speakers become as mute as fish in your regard, for they could not explain how you could give birth while remaining a virgin. As for us, while marveling at the mystery, we cry out to you with faith: Hail, O Container of God's Wisdom! Hail, O Treasury of His Providence! Hail, O Reproof of foolish philosophers! Hail, O Confusion of speechless wise men! Hail, for you perplexed the inquisitive minds! Hail, for you dried up the inventors of myths! Hail, for you ripped the Athenians' meshes! Hail, for you filled the Fishermen's nets! Hail, O Retriever from the Abyss of Ignorance! Hail, O Lamplight of Knowledge to many! Hail, O Ship for those who seek Salvation! Hail, O Harbor for the Sailors of Life! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION Desiring to save the world, the Creator of All came down to it of His own will. Being at the same time our Shepherd and our God, He appeared among us. And so the like called upon the like, and as God He heard: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! TENTH CHANT O Virgin Mother of God, you are the strength of Virgins and of all those who have recourse to you. For the Maker of heaven and earth covered you with His shadow, O Pure One, and came to dwell in your womb, and taught us all to cry out to you: Hail, O Pillar of Virginity! Hail, O Gateway of Salvation! Hail, O Principle of the New Creation! Hail, O Dispenser of God's bounties! Hail, for you restored those born in shame! Hail, for you gave sense to those who had lost it! Hail, O you who stopped the corruptor of minds! Hail, O you who bore the Sower of Chastity! Hail, Holy Chamber of virginal wedlock! Hail, O you who join the faithful with God! Hail, O gracious Foster-Mother of virgins! Hail, O Bridesmaid of holy souls! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION Because He wished to grant release from all the ancient debts, the One who pays men's dues came down Himself to those who had spurned His grace; He tore up their obligations, and heard from all of them this cry: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! TWELFTH CHANT By singing praise to your maternity, we all exalt you as a spiritual temple, Mother of God! For the One Who Dwelt Within Your Womb, the Lord Who Holds All Things in His Hands, sanctified you, glorified you, and taught all men to sing to you: Hail, O Tabernacle of God the Word! Hail, O Holy One, more holy than the saints! Hail, O Ark that the Spirit has gilded! Hail, Inexhaustible Treasure of Life! Hail, Precious Crown of rightful authorities! Hail, Sacred Glory of reverent priests! Hail, Unshakable Tower of the Church! Hail, Unbreachable Wall of the Kingdom! Hail, O you through whom the trophies are raised! Hail, O you through whome the enemies are routed! Hail, O healing of my body! Hail, O salvation of my soul! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! [RESPONSE]: Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever-pure! KONTAKION O Mother worthy of all praise, you who have given birth to the Word, the Holiest of the Holy, accept this present offering, deliver all men from every affliction, and svae from the future punishment those who cry out to you: "Alleluia!" [RESPONSE]: Alleluia! Gabriel was rapt in amazement as he beheld your virginity and the splendor of your purity, O Mother of God, and he cried out to you: "By what name shall I call you? I am bewildered; I am lost! I shall greet you as I was commanded to do: 'Hail, O Woman full of Grace!'" DISMISSAL - Glory to you, O Christ, our God and our hope: Glory br to you! [Response]: Glory be to thy father, and to the son, and to the Holy Spirit, noe and ever, and forever Amen. Lord, have mercy! Lord, hsve mercy! Give the blessing! May Christ our true God (If a Sunday or the Easter Season: who is risen from the dead) have mercy on us and save us, through the prayers of his most pure mother and of all the Holy, Glorious, and illustrious Apostles, through the paryers of St. (N) whose memory we celebrate today, and of all the saints, for he is gracious and loves mankind! [Response]: Amen.
O my God, I thank you and I praise you for accomplishing your holy and all-lovable will without any regard for mine. With my whole heart, in spite of my heart, do I receive this cross I feared so much! It is the cross of Your choice, the cross of Your love. I venerate it; nor for anything in the world would I wish that it had not come, since You willed it. I keep it with gratitude and with joy, as I do everything that comes from Your hand; and I shall strive to carry it without letting it drag, with all the respect and all the affection which Your works deserve. Amen.
This section has been prepared as a spiritual tool for Adults, High School Students, Teachers, Chaplains, Priests, those who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confession and those who teach on the subject. 1. Conditions for the Sacrament of Confession. To properly receive the Sacrament of Confession, one must: 1. Examine his/her conscience. (To do this, one can review the Ten Commandments of God and the Commandments of the Church.) 2. Have a sincere sorrow for having offended God, with a detestation of one's sins. 3. Make a firm resolution to avoid sin in the future and all the dangerous circumstances that lead to sin. 4. Confess one's sins to the priest. 5. Be willing to do penance for the past sins in order to satisfy the Divine Justice for them. 2. Secrecy of the Sacrament. On the subject of the secrecy of the Sacrament of Confession, the Catechism of the Holy Catholic Church states: "Given the delicacy and greatness of this ministry and the respect due to persons, the Church declares that every priest who hears confession is bound under very severe penalties to keep absolute secrecy regarding the sins that his penitents have confessed to him. He can make no use of knowledge that confession gives him about penitents' lives. This secret, which admits of no exceptions, is called the "sacramental seal," because what the penitent has made known to the priest remains 'sealed' by the sacrament." [C. C. C. # 1467] "The secret of the sacrament of reconciliation is sacred, and cannot be violated under any pretext. 'The sacramental seal is inviolable; therefore, it is a crime for a confessor in any way to betray a penitent by word or in any other manner or for any reason.'" [C. C. C. # 2490] 3. Restitution. In the case of stolen goods, the penitent will be reminded of his obligation to: 1. Return the stolen property, or 2. Give its equivalent value to charity. In the case of wilful damage or destruction of someone's property, the penitent will be reminded of his obligation to: 1. Pay to repair or replace the property, or 2. Give its equivalent value to charity. 4. Receiving the Holy Eucharist while in a state of mortal sin. To receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist while in a state of mortal sin is a sacrilege. One must prepare himself by receiving the Sacrament of Confession prior to receiving the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist to ensure that he is in a state of grace. On this subject, Saint Paul states: "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread and drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves. For this reason many of you are weak and ill, and some have died." [1 Cor. 11:27-30] 5. Sin separates us from God. The six benefits that are received through the Sacrament of Confession are: 1. Reconciliation with God by which the penitent recovers his state of grace; 2. Reconciliation with the Church; 3. The remission of the eternal punishment incurred through mortal sins; 4. The remission, at least in part, of temporal punishments resulting from sin; 5. Peace and serenity of conscience, and spiritual consolation; 6. An increase of spiritual strength for the Christian battle. By approaching the Sacrament of Confession, the penitent obtains pardon from God's mercy for the sins he has committed against God, therefore being reconciled with the Holy Catholic Church which was wounded by the shipwreck of one of its members. (C.C.C. # 1422, 1496) 6. Ways of sinning. A sin can be committed by thought, desire, word, action or omission. 7. Mortal sin. For a sin to be serious or mortal, it must meet the following conditions: 1. The thought, desire, word, action or omission must be seriously wrong or considered seriously wrong. It must be serious matter. 2. The sinner must be mindful of the serious wrong. He must have had sufficient reflection upon committing the sin. 3. The sinner must fully consent to the sin. His free will must have consented to it. 8. Guilt by assisting others to sin. One can be guilty by helping someone else to sin in any of the following ways: 1. By advising someone to sin. 2. By commanding someone to sin. 3. By provoking someone to sin. 4. By consenting to someone's sin. 5. By showing someone how to sin. 6. By praising someone for his sin. 7. By concealing, remaining silent about, doing nothing to prevent someone's sin. 8. By taking part in or enjoying the result of someone's sin. 9. By defending someone's sin. 9. List of possible sins. This is a prayer against Satan and his rebellious angels. It was published by the Order of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII. This simple prayer must be said by a priest only. The term "exorcism"" does NOT always denote a solemn exorcism involving a person possessed by the devil. In general, the term denotes prayers to "curb the power of the devil and prevent him from doing harm." As St. Peter had written in Holy Scripture, "your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking whom he may devour." [1 St.Pet. 5:8] The Holy Father exhorts priests to say this prayer as often as possible, as a simple exorcism to curb the power of the devil and prevent him from doing harm. The faithful also may say it in their own name, for the same purpose, as any approved prayer. Its use is recommended whenever action of the devil is suspected, causing malice in men, violent temptations and even storms and various calamities. It could be used as a solemn exorcism (an official and public ceremony, in Latin), to expel the devil. It would then be said by a priest, in the name of the Church and only with a Bishop's permission. Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Most glorious Prince of the Heavenly Armies, Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in "our battle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places" [Eph., 6:12]. Come to the assistance of men whom God has created to His likeness and whom He has redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil. The Holy Church venerates you as her guardian and protector; to you, the Lord has entrusted the souls of the redeemed to be led into heaven. Pray therefore the God of Peace to crush Satan beneath our feet, that he may no longer retain men captive and do injury to the Church. Offer our prayers to the Most High, that without delay they may draw His mercy down upon us; take hold of "the dragon, the old serpent, which is the devil and Satan," bind him and cast him into the bottomless pit "that he may no longer seduce the nations." [Rev. 20:2-3] Exorcism In the Name of Jesus Christ, our God and Lord, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul and all the Saints. and powerful in the holy authority of our ministry, we confidently undertake to repulse the attacks and deceits of the devil. God arises; His enemies are scattered and those who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, so are they driven; as wax melts before the fire, so the wicked perish at the presence of God. V. Behold the Cross of the Lord, flee bands of enemies. R. The Lion of the tribe of Juda, the offspring of David, hath conquered. V. May Thy mercy, Lord, descend upon us. R. As great as our hope in Thee. We drive you from us, whoever you may be, unclean spirits, all satanic powers, all infernal invaders, all wicked legions, assemblies and sects. In the Name and by the power of Our Lord Jesus Christ, + may you be snatched away and driven from the Church of God and from the souls made to the image and likeness of God and redeemed by the Precious Blood of the Divine Lamb. + Most cunning serpent, you shall no more dare to deceive the human race, persecute the Church, torment God's elect and sift them as wheat. + The Most High God commands you, + He with whom, in your great insolence, you still claim to be equal. "God who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." [1 Tim. 2:4) God the Father commands you. + God the Son commands you. + God the Holy Ghost commands you. + Christ, God's Word made flesh, commands you; + He who to save our race outdone through your envy, "humbled Himself, becoming obedient even unto death" [Phil. 2:8); He who has built His Church on the firm rock and declared that the gates of hell shall not prevail against Her, because He will dwell with Her "all days even to the end of the world." [Mt. 28:20] The sacred Sign of the Cross commands you, + as does also the power of the mysteries of the Christian Faith. + The glorious Mother of God, the Virgin Mary, commands you; + she who by her humility and from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception crushed your proud head. The faith of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and of the other Apostles commands you. + The blood of the Martyrs and the pious intercession of all the Saints command you. + Thus, cursed dragon, and you, diabolical legions, we adjure you by the living God, + by the true God, + by the holy God, + by the God "who so loved the world that He gave up His only Son, that every soul believing in Him might not perish but have life everlasting;" [St.Jn. 3:16] stop deceiving human creatures and pouring out to them the poison of eternal damnation; stop harming the Church and hindering her liberty. Begone, Satan, inventor and master of all deceit, enemy of man's salvation. Give place to Christ in Whom you have found none of your works; give place to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church acquired by Christ at the price of His Blood. Stoop beneath the all-powerful Hand of God; tremble and flee when we invoke the Holy and terrible Name of Jesus, this Name which causes hell to tremble, this Name to which the Virtues, Powers and Dominations of heaven are humbly submissive, this Name which the Cherubim and Seraphim praise unceasingly repeating: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord, the God of Hosts. V. O Lord, hear my prayer. R. And let my cry come unto Thee. V. May the Lord be with thee. R. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. God of heaven, God of earth, God of Angels, God of Archangels, God of Patriarchs, God of Prophets, God of Apostles, God of Martyrs, God of Confessors, God of Virgins, God who has power to give life after death and rest after work: because there is no other God than Thee and there can be no other, for Thou art the Creator of all things, visible and invisible, of Whose reign there shall be no end, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy glorious Majesty and we beseech Thee to deliver us by Thy power from all the tyranny of the infernal spirits, from their snares, their lies and their furious wickedness. Deign, O Lord, to grant us Thy powerful protection and to keep us safe and sound. We beseech Thee through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen. V. From the snares of the devil, R. Deliver us, O Lord. V. That Thy Church may serve Thee in peace and liberty: R. We beseech Thee to hear us. V. That Thou may crush down all enemies of Thy Church: R. We beseech Thee to hear us. (Holy water is sprinkled in the place where we may be.)
Soul of Christ, make me holy. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, fill me with love. Water from Christ's side, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. Good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds, hide me. Never let me be parted from you. From the evil enemy, protect me. At the hour of my death, call me. And tell me to come to you. That with your saints I may praise you. Through all eternity. Amen.
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

I. My Jesus, Thou alone art sufficient for me. My love, do not permit me to separate myself from Thee. When shall I be able to say, "My God, I cannot lose Thee any more?" II. Lord, who am I, that Thou shouldst desire so much to be loved by me? And whom shall I love, if I love not Thee, my Jesus? Here I am, Lord; dispose of me as Thou pleasest. Give me Thy love; I ask nothing more. Make me all Thine before I die. III. Eternal Father, for the love of Jesus Christ have pity on me. My God, I wish for Thee alone, and nothing more. IV. O my Jesus! would that I could be entirely spent for Thee, as Thou didst spend Thyself entirely for me! If I had died while I was in sin, I could no more have loved Thee; now that I can love Thee, I will love Thee as much as I can. To Thee do I consecrate all the remainder of my life. I wish only, and I wish in all things, that which Thou dost desire. When I see Thee for the first time, my Jesus, may it be with a look of mercy. May I die rather than ever offend Thee again. Thou wilt not leave me, I will not leave Thee; so shall our love endure in this world and in the next. VI. I should be too ungrateful, O my Jesus, if I loved Thee but little, after so many graces. Thou didst give Thyself all to me; I give myself all to Thee. Thou lovest those that love Thee. I love Thee; do Thou also love me. If I love Thee but little, give Thou me the love Thou requirest of me. What hast Thou not done to oblige me to love Thee? Make me conquer all things to please Thee. VII. Accept the love of a soul which has offended Thee so deeply. Show me the immense good Thou art, that I may love Thee exceedingly. I desire to love Thee exceedingly in this life, that I may love Thee exceedingly in the next. VIII. I hope to love Thee for all eternity. O Eternal God! Oh that I had always loved Thee! Oh that I had died rather than have offended Thee! I give Thee my will, my liberty; dispose of me as Thou pleasest. May my only happiness be to please Thee, O Infinite Goodness. O my God! I rejoice in that Thou art infinitely happy. IX. Thou art omnipotent; make me a Saint. Thou hast sought me while I was fleeing from Thee; Thou didst love me when I despised Thy love; abandon me not, now that I seek Thee and love Thee. May I this day give myself wholly to Thee. X. Send me any chastisement, but deprive me not of the power of loving Thee. I thank Thee that Thou givest me time to love Thee. I love Thee, my Jesus, I love Thee; and I hope to die repeating, "I love Thee, I love Thee." XI. I desire to love Thee without reserve, and to do all that I know to be pleasing to Thee. I love Thy good pleasure more than all the pleasures of the world. I accept all the troubles that may happen to me, provided I love Thee, O my God. O my Jesus! that I could die for Thee, as Thou didst die for me! XII. Oh that I could make all men love Thee as Thou deservest! O will of God, thou art my love. O God of love, give me love.
Mother of God, remember me. (Saint Francis Xavier) O Virgin and Mother, grant that I may always remember thee. (Saint Philip Neri) Holy Virgin Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me. (Saint Philip Neri) O Lady, grant that Jesus may never cast me off. (Saint Ephrem) O Mary, may my heart never cease to love thee, and my tongue never cease to praise thee. (Saint Bonaventure) O Lady, by the love which thou bearest to Jesus, help me to love Him. (Saint Bridget) O Mary, be graciously pleased to make me thy servant. (Saint Jane de Chantal) O Mary, I give myself to thee without reserve; do thou accept and preserve me. (Saint Mary Magdalen de Pazzi) O Mary, abandon me not until death. (Father Spinelli) Hail, Mary, my Mother. (Father Francis Brancaccio) Holy Mary, my Advocate, pray for me. (Father Sertorio Caputo) Thy name of Mary, to my ear, O Mother Mary, sounds more sweet Than sweetest melody; It brings such peace and joy so dear, That I would ever more repeat A word so sweet to me. Our Blessed Lady revealed to a devout soul that she was much pleased at being honored by her servants with the following devotion: I thank Thee, O Eternal Father, for the power given to Mary, Thy daughter. Say the "Our Father," "Hail Mary," & "Glory be to the Father." I thank Thee, O Eternal Son, for the wisdom given to Mary, Thy mother. Say the "Our Father," "Hail Mary," & "Glory be to the Father." I thank Thee, O Eternal and Holy Spirit, for the love given to Mary, Thy spouse. Say the "Our Father," "Hail Mary," & "Glory be to the Father." To thee do we cry, O Queen of Mercy, return, that we may behold thee dispensing favors, bestowing remedies, giving strength. Show us thy compassionate looks, and we shall be saved. O sovereign Lady of all things, Saint of Saints, splendor of the world, glory of Heaven, acknowledge those who love thee; hear us, for thy Son honors thee by denying thee nothing. Run, hasten, O Lady, and in thy mercy help thy sinful servant, who calls upon thee, and deliver him from the hands of the enemy. Who will not sigh to thee? We sigh with love and grief, for we are oppressed on every side. How can we do otherwise than sigh to thee, O solace of the miserable, refuge of outcasts, ransom of captives? We are certain that when thou seest our miseries, thy compassion will hasten to relieve us. O our sovereign Lady and our Advocate, commend us to thy Son. Grant, O blessed one, by the grace which thou hast merited, that He who through thee was graciously pleased to become a partaker in our infirmity and misery, may also, through thy intercession, make us partakers in His happiness and glory. (St. Bernard) In thee from my whole heart I have placed my hope. (St. John Damascene) It is not possible, O Lady, that thou shouldst abandon him who has placed his hopes in thee. (St. Bernard) Thou hast only to will our salvation, and then it is not possible that we should not obtain it. (St. Anselm) Hail, Daughter of God the Father; hail, Mother of God the Son; hail, Spouse of God the Holy Ghost; hail, Temple of the whole Trinity. (Simon Garcia) Thanks be to God and to Mary. May all things be to the eternal glory of the most Holy Trinity and of Immaculate Mary. Live always Jesus our love, and Mary our hope, with Saint Joseph and Saint Teresa our advocates! O Mary, draw me all to God. O my Mother, make me always have recourse to thee. It is for thee to make me a Saint. This is my hope.
1. O God! Who knows what fate awaits me? 2. I shall be either eternally happy or eternally miserable. 3. Of what worth is all the world without God? Let all be lost, but let not God be lost. 4. I love Thee, my Jesus Who didst die for me! Would that I had died before I ever offended Thee! 5. I will rather die than lose God. 6. Jesus and Mary, Thou art my hope. 7. My God, help me, for the love of Jesus Christ! My Jesus, Thou alone art sufficient for me! 8. Suffer me not to separate myself from Thee. 9. Give me Thy love, and then do with me what Thou pleasest. 10. Whom shall I love, if I love not Thee, my God? 11. Eternal Father, help me, for the love of Jesus! I believe in Thee, I hope in Thee, I love Thee! 12. Here I am, O Lord; do with me what Thou wilt! 13. When shall I see myself altogether Thine, my God? 14. When shall I be able to say to Thee, My God, I can lose Thee no more? 15. Mary, my hope, have pity on me! 16. Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me! 17. Lord, who am I, that Thou shouldst desire to be loved by me? 18. My God, I desire Thee alone, and nothing more. 19. I desire all that Thou dost will, and that alone. 20. Oh, that I might be annihilated for Thee, Who wast annihilated for me! 21. Towards Thee alone, my God, have I been ungrateful! 22. I have offended Thee enough, I will no longer displease Thee. 23. If I had died then, I could not have loved Thee any more. 24. Let me die before again offending Thee. 25. Thou hast waited for me that I might love Thee. Yea, I will love Thee. 26. I consecrate the remainder of my life to Thee. 27. O my Jesus, draw me entirely to Thyself! 28. Thou wilt not leave me; I will not leave Thee. 29. I hope that we shall always love each other, O God of my soul! 30. My Jesus, make me all Thine before I die! 31. Grant that when Thou shalt come to judge me, I may see Thee with a benign countenance. 32. Thou hast done more than enough to oblige me to love Thee. I love Thee, I love Thee! 33. Deign to accept the love of a sinner who has so often offended Thee. 34. Thou has given Thyself all to me; I give myself all to Thee. 35. I desire to love Thee exceedingly in this life that I may love Thee exceedingly in the next. 36. Teach me to know Thy great goodness, that I may love Thee very much. 37. Thou lovest those that love Thee. I love Thee, do Thou also love me? 38. Give me the love Thou requirest of me. I rejoice that Thou art infinitely happy. 39. Oh that I had always loved thee, and had died before I had offended Thee. Grant that I may overcome all things to please Thee. 40. I give Thee my whole will; dispose of me as thou pleasest. 41. My pleasure is to please Thee, O Infinite Goodness! 42. I hope to love Thee for all eternity, O eternal God! 43. Thou art omnipotent; make me a Saint. 44. Thou didst seek me while I was flying from Thee; Thou wilt not drive me away now that I seek after Thee. 45. I thank Thee for giving me time to love Thee. I thank Thee, and love Thee! v 46. Let me give myself entirely to Thee this day, punish me in any way, but deprive me not of the power of loving Thee. 47. I will love Thee, my God, without reserve. 48. I accept all sufferings and all contempt, provided I may love Thee. 49. I desire to die for Thee, Who didst die for me. 50. I wish that all could love Thee, Who didst die for me. 51. I wish that all could love Thee as Thou meritest. 52. I wish to do everything that I know to be Thy pleasure. 53. I care more to please Thee than for all the pleasures of the world. 54. O holy will of God, Thou art my love! O Mary, draw me entirely to God! 55. O my Mother, make me always have recourse to thee; it is for thee to make me a Saint; this is my hope.
Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete. Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His angels and in His saints.
The animals praise and glorify God inasmuch as they assist man and serve him. In their own way they assist man in attaining his ultimate goal, and for that reason the Church blesses them. In her blessing the church commends these animals to St. Anthony the hermit, who from the earliest times was regarded as the patron of farmers and animal breeders. The following prayers can be used when the animals are placed in harness for the first time. O God, our refuge and strength, the source of our devotion, hear the devout prayers of the Church, grant that what we ask in faith we may obtain in fact. Almighty, eternal God, who didst test glorious Saint Anthony the hermit in many temptations and didst grant him to go forth untouched by the seductions of this world: grant us Thy servants to make progress in virtue by his example and to be freed from the dangers of this life by his merits and intercession. May these animals, O Lord, receive Thy blessing; may they be sound in body and, by the intercession of Saint Anthony the hermit, may they be preserved from all evil. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, through whom every good thing has its beginning, and through whom it is improved and increased; grant, we beseech Thee, to us who cry to Thee, that this work, which we are beginning for the praise of Thy name, may be happily brought to completion through the never-failing gift of Thy fatherly wisdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty, eternal God, Thou hast given to Thy priests a special grace so that we may be sure that whatever is worthily done by them in Thy name is done also by Thee. We beseech Thy clemency that Thou wouldst visit what we now visit, that Thou wouldst bless what we now bless, and that Thou wouldst stretch forth Thy mighty right arm over that which we now do, and that, by the merits and intercession of Thy saints and this entrance of our humble persons, the demons may be put to flight and the angel of peace may enter in. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Send forth Thy spirit and they shall be created; And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. For the Lord will give goodness; And our earth shall yield her fruit. We humbly beseech Thy clemency, O Lord, that Thou wouldst render these fields (pastures, meadows) fertile with rains in due season, that Thou wouldst fill them with Thy blessing, and so grant that Thy people may be ever thankful for Thy gifts. Take infertility from the earth and fill the hungry with Thy gifts which the fruitful earth will yield in fullness that the poor and needy may praise the name of Thy glory forever and ever.
On the feast of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist (28 December) Graciously bless and sanctify, O Lord God, this wine and this drink with Thy right hand, and grant that by the merits of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist, all who believe in Thee and partake of this wine may be blessed and protected. And as Saint John drank poison from a cup and was unharmed, so may all those who this day drink of this cup in honor of Saint John be preserved from all poisoning and other harmful things, and as they offer themselves to Thee in body and soul may they be free of all guilt. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Bless, O Lord, this drink which Thou hast created, that it may be a salutary remedy for all who partake of it, and grant that all who taste of it may, by invoking Thy holy name, receive health for body and soul. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. And may the blessing of Almighty God, of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, come down upon this wine and any other drink, and remain forever. Amen.
After the last Gospel of the Mass in the feast of Saint John. Psalm 22 The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing. He hath set me in a place of pasture. He hath brought me up on the water of refreshment. He hath converted my soul. He hath led me on the paths of justice, for His own name's sake. For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for Thou art with me. Thy rod and Thy staff, they have comforted me. Thou hast prepared a table before me, against them that afflict me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil: and my chalice which inebriateth me, how goodly is it! And Thy mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And that I may dwell in the house of the Lord unto the length of days. The psalm is followed by the Our Father and a series of versicles. Then the priest says three prayers: O holy Lord, almighty Father, eternal God, who didst wish that Thy Son, co-eternal and consubstantial with Thee, should come down from heaven and be born in the fullness of time of the most holy Virgin Mary in order to seek the lost and wandering sheep and carry in back on His shoulders to the fold, and also that He might heal the wounds of him who fell among robbers, pouring in oil and wine; bless and sanctify this wine which Thou hast made from the vine for man's drink, and grant that all those who drink or partake of it in this sacred solemnity may obtain health of body and soul, and if they be on a journey they may be comforted through Thy grace and that their journey may be completed successfully. Though the same Christ our Lord. Amen. Lord Jesus Christ, Thou didst call Thyself the vine and Thy holy apostles the branches, and Thou didst wish to make a good vineyard out of all those who love Thee, bless this wine and pour into it the power of Thy benediction, so that all who drink or partake of it, by the intercession of Thy beloved disciple, the holy Apostle and Evangelist John, may be freed of every disease and pestilential attack and obtain health of body and soul. Who livest and reignest forever. Amen. O God, Thou didst create bread for the food of mankind and wine for its drink so that bread might strengthen the body and wine rejoice the heart of men; Thou didst also grant to Thy beloved disciple, Saint John, the grace of being able to drink the poisoned cup without harm and also of raising from the dead those killed by poison, grant to all who drink this wine the attainment of spiritual joy and everlasting life. Though our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Heavenly Father, thank You that we are celebrating this church anniversary. We thank You that we are all One in Christ, and we pray that as members of Your body, Your Holy Spirit would knit us together in the bonds of unity and love. Lord, You have promised that You are the One that would build Your Church and we ask that You would continue to equip each of us, both individually and corporately with the talents and gifts that may be used to Your praise and glory for the edification of the rest of the saints of God. Protect us from the wiles of the enemy who seeks to destroy and cause divisions among Your body. Help us to be sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable and gentle one towards each other. Let us not be motivated by selfishness but in humility may we seek to regard the needs and necessities of others before our own. Give wisdom to the elders and deacons and give wisdom to those that teach and a teachable spirit to those that listen. And may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of the Father and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all this day and for ever. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who being God, lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
O God, You ordained that Your only-begotten Son should be lifted up above the earth and draw all things to Himself; mercifully grant that, through the merits and example of Your seraphic confessor Joseph, we may be lifted up above all earthly desires and be found worthy to come to Him, who being God, lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
O God, the Giver of all good gifts, in Your servant Bibiana You joined the flower of virginity with the palm of martyrdom; be pleased, by her intercession, to join our souls by charity to You, so that all dangers being removed, we may obtain our eternal reward. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
O God, You taught blessed Gabriel diligently to ponder the sorrows of Your most sweet Mother, and exalted him to the glory of sanctity and the working of miracles; grant us, through his intercession and example, so to mourn with Your Mother, that we may be saved through her maternal care. You Who are God, living and reigning with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
Grant, we beseech thee, O Lord, that the prayers of thy holy Abbot, blessed Giles may commend us unto thee: that we, who have no power of ourselves to help ourselves, may by his advocacy find favour in thy sight. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who being God, lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
O God, You were pleased to institute by heavenly direction, through St. John, the order of the Holy Trinity, for redeeming captives from the power of the Saracens; grant, we implore You, that by the suffrage of his merits, we may be delivered by Your grace from captivity of soul and body. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who being God, lives and reigns with You in the unity of the same Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
Assist us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications which we make before Thee on the feast of blessed Nicholas, thy holy Confessor: that we, who put not our trust in our own righteousness, may be succoured by the prayers of him that found favour in thy sight. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who being God, lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
O God, who vouchsafest unto us to keep the heavenly birthday of blessed Placidus and his companions, thy holy Martyrs: grant, we beseech thee; that we may rejoice in the perpetual felicity of their fellowship in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who being God, lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
O God, Who didst make blessed Raymund, Thy confessor, wonderful in delivering Thy faithful held in captivity by the infidels, grant us by his intercession that, being loosed from the bonds of our sins, we may with quiet minds perform those things which are pleasing to Thee. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
Lord, fill us with that spirit of courage which gave your martyr Sebastian strength to offer his life in faithful witness. Help us to learn from him to cherish Your law and to obey you rather than men. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
O God, Who hast granted to the virgins worthily consecrated to Thee, the courage to face, with Ursula as their leader, a wonderful fight whereby through the palm of martyrdom they reached the glory of Heavenly contemplation, we beseech Thee grant that we may be aided by the prayer of those who in this day after passing through the gates of death, Thou has made to triumph in Heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who liveth and reigneth with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.
O God, You endowed Your holy martyrs Abdon and Sennen with abundant gifts of Your grace that they might come to their present glory; forgive the sins of Your sevants that, with the merits of Your saints pleading on their behalf, they may deserve to be delivered from all adversity. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who being God, lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

I confess to Almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Michael, the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, to all the Saints and to you, Father, that I have sinned exceedingly, in thought, word and deed, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I beseech the blessed Mary, ever Virgin, blessed Micahel the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, all the Saints, and you, Father, to pray to the Lord our God for me.
O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thou didst reveal to the blessed Margaret Mary Thy desire to rule over Christian families; behold, in order to please Thee, we stand before Thee this day, to proclaim Thy full sovereignty over our family. We desire henceforth to live Thy life, we desire that the virtues, to which Thou hast promised peace on earth, may flower in the bosom of our family; we desire to keep far from us the spirit of the world, which Thou hast condemned. Thou art King of our hearts by our love of Thee alone, with which our hearts are on fire and whose flame we shall nourish by frequent reception of the Holy Eucharist. Be pleased, O Sacred Heart, to preside over our gathering together, to bless our spiritual and temporal affairs, to ward off all annoyance from us, to bless our joys and comfort our sorrows. If any of us has ever been so unhappy as to fall into the misery of displeasing Thee, grant that he may remember, O Heart of Jesus, that Thou art full of goodness and mercy toward the repentant sinner. And when the hour of separation strikes and death enters our family circle, whether we go or whether we stay, we shall all bow meekly before Thine eternal decrees. This shall be our consolation, to remember that the day will come, when our entire family, once more united in heaven, shall be able to sing of Thy glory and Thy goodness forever. May the immaculate Heart of Mary and the glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph vouchsafe to offer Thee this our act of consecration, and to keep the memory thereof alive in us all the days of our lives. Glory to the Heart of Jesus, our King and our Father!
May you be their father and counselor. let them, like Jesus, grow in age as well as in wisdom and grace before God and men. Preserve them from the corruption of this world, and give us the grace one day to be united with them in heaven forever. Amen.
Do Thou protect us, guard us and establish amongst us Thy holy fear, true peace and concord in Christian love: in order that by living according to the divine pattern of Thy family we may be able, all of us without exception, to attain to eternal happiness. Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be three times. Amen.
Immortal God, holy Lord, Father and Protector of all You have created, we raise our hearts to You today for those who have passed out of this mortal life. In Your loving mercy, Father of all, be pleased to receive them in Your heavenly company, and forgive the failings and faults they may have done from human frailty. Your only Son, Christ, our Saviour, suffered so cruelly that He might deliver them from the second death. By his merits may they share in the glory of His victory over sin and death. For all the faithful who have died we pray, but in particular for those dear to us, parents, relatives and friends. nor do we forget all who did good to us while on earth, who helped us by their prayers, sacrifice and example. We pray also for any who may have done us harm, and stand in special need of Your forgiveness. May the merits and prayers of our Virgin Mother, Mary, and those of all the Angels and Saints, speak for us and assist them now. This we ask in Christ's name. Amen.
O Blessed Prince of Apostles, Vicar of Christ, Shepherd of the whole flock, Rock on whom the Church is built, we thank the Prince of Pastors, who in the ages of Faith, did bind this country so sweetly and strongly to thee and to that holy See of Rome from which her conversion came. We praise and bless our Lord for those steadfast Confessors who laid down their lives for thy honour and prerogative in the hour when schism and heresy broke upon the land. We desire to revive the zeal, the devotion and the love of ancient days. We consecrate our country, as far as in us lies, fervently and lovingly to thee. We offer thee our homage. We renew our loyalty to the Pontiff, thy successor, who now fills the Apostolic See. Do thou confirm and strengthen, by thy powerful intercession, the faith of the Pastors and people who invoke thee, save us from apostasy, from disunion, from religious indifference, and from the losses to which ignorance and temptation expose our little flock. O most sincere and most humble penitent, obtain for us tears of true repentance for our sins, and a strong personal love for our Divine Master; O Key-bearer of the Heavenly Kingdom, open to us the gate of Heaven, that we may enter into the joy of the King of Glory. Remember this realm of England, which grew in grace and unity under thy blessed apostolic influence for nigh a thousand years. Pray to Jesus that all may see the and be Drought back to thy Fold, which is the One Fold of Christ. Amen. V. Thou art Peter. R. And upon this rock I will build My Church. Let us pray. Raise us up, we beseech Thee, O Lord, by the apostolic might of Thy blessed Apostle, Peter; that the weaker we are in ourselves, the more powerful may be the assistance whereby we are strengthened through his intercession; that thus, ever fortified by the protection of Thine Apostle, we may never yield to sin nor be overwhelmed by adversity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. Blessed be the Name of Jesus. Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart. Blessed be His Most Precious Blood. Blessed be her Glorious Assumption. Blessed be the Name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints.
To be prayed at the beginning of each prayer below: Leader: Let us commend ourselves and all people to the love and protection of the Mother of God. All: Holy Mother of God, Mary ever Virgin, intercede for us with the Lord our God. Leader: God who is mighty has done great things for us. All: And holy is God's name. Leader: Let us pray: Sunday Mary, On this, the Lord's Day, We celebrate with joy the fulfillment of the miracle God began in your womb. He became what we are So that we might become what he is. He is Risen, the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. He reigns as Lord and God forever. In your marveling at the great things the Mighty One worked in you, We find our own awe at being chosen sons (and daughters) of God, Of being empowered to become a nation of saints, Of being commissioned to bear Christ to the world. With you as our companion and model, May God bring this good work to completion And may our dedication to you of all that we have and are Bring us to share in your blessedness. Amen. Monday Mary, God has worked a great wonder: Jesus is risen! No longer are we caught in the cords of death, For he has loosened our bonds. No longer need we walk in fear, For he has become our strong hope. No longer are we alone and estranged, For he has called us friends. May your faith in the face of death - even death on the cross, May your hope - almost buried with him in the tomb, May your love - nearly staunched by the fear of his disciples, May your joy in the Resurrected Savior be ours this day, As we, in your name for your honor, live out our Easter mission To go forth and teach all peoples. Amen. Tuesday Mary, We, your sons (and daughters) Look to you as we treasure and ponder The Rising of Jesus - your Son and our brother. Teach us how that marvelous moment can topple the proud, Elevate the lowly, feed the hungry, And mission the rich - even today. Confident in God's power and love, Trusting in the Risen Lord, Relying on the Promised Advocate, The Spirit of Life and of Truth, We dedicate our lives, in your name and for your honor To the transforming power of Easter. Amen. Wednesday Mary, In the brilliant light of Easter, Teach us, too, that nothing is impossible with God. All our struggles with self and others, All our disappointments and shames, All our failures and sinfulness Are as nothing in this healing, life-giving light. Accept, then, our all. May God look upon it, As once did the Mighty One upon our lowliness, So that we might be gifted with that blessedness Promised to all sons and daughters of the Resurrection. Amen. Thursday Mary, We sing our Alleluias today, for Jesus is risen. Our souls proclaim the greatness of God, Our spirits rejoice in our Risen Savior. May your song be sung in our lives At every moment of this day so that God's power, Which can do far more than we can ask or imagine, May continue to call life from death and light from darkness, Transforming our meager efforts Into your Son's victory over death. Amen. Friday Mary, The cross of death has become the Tree of Life, and we rejoice. God has sent forth the Spirit, And the world quickens to life anew. Jesus is risen! Teach us no more to fear the sword of division and death; Teach us to welcome Jesus, the sign of contradiction, And to lay bare the thoughts of our hearts To the healing light of Easter. Then, in your name and for your honor, We will live in the Paschal Mystery Today and, with you, see it fulfilled On the day of Resurrection. Amen. Saturday Mary, We ask for your powerful presence this day, Just as you shared it With the frightened disciples in the Upper Room. Teach us, as you did them, to rely upon God's promises, Upon our brother and Lord, Jesus, and Upon the Advocate and Comforter, The Spirit of Life and Love and Truth. May we live as you did, in strong hope and invicible confidence. And be transformed by the power of the Resurrection Into true hearers and doers of God's will. Amen.
Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give Your Angels and Saints charge over those who sleep. Tend Your sick ones, O Lord Christ. Rest Your weary ones, Bless Your dying ones, Soothe Your suffering ones, pity Your afflicted ones, Shield Your joyous ones, And all for Your love's sake. Amen.
O my God, at the end of this day I thank You most heartily for all the graces I have received from You. I am sorry that I have not made a better use of them. I am sorry for all the sins I have committed against You. Forgive me, O my God, and graciously protect me this night. Blessed Virgin Mary, my dear heavenly mother, take me under your protection. St. Joseph, my dear Guardian Angel, and all you saints of God, pray for me. Sweet Jesus, have pity on all poor sinners, and save them from hell. Have mercy on the suffering souls in purgatory... (followed by an Act of Contrition)
O eternal God and Ruler of all creation, You have allowed me to reach this hour. Forgive the sins I have committed this day by word, deed or thought. Purify me, O Lord, from every spiritual and physical stain. Grant that I may rise from this sleep to glorify You by my deeds throughout my entire lifetime, and that I be victorious over every spiritual and physical enemy. Deliver me, O Lord, from all vain thoughts and from evil desires, for yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen. (By Saint Macarius)
O Holy Spirit, most merciful Comforter: You proceed from the Father in a manner beyond our understanding. Come, I beseech You, and take up your abode in my heart. Purify and cleanse me from all sin, and sanctify my soul. Cleanse it from every impurity, water its dryness, melt its coldness, and save it from its sinful ways. Make me truly humble and resigned, that I may be pleasing to You, and that You might abide with me forever. Most Blessed Light, most Amiable Light, enlighten me. O Rapturous Joy of Paradise, Fount of Purest Delight, My God, give yourself to me and kindle in my innermost soul the fire of Your love. My Lord, instruct, direct, and defend me in all things. Give me strength against all immoderate fears and against despondency. Bestow upon me a true faith, a firm hope, and a sincere and a perfect love. Grant that I always do Thy Most Gracious Will. Amen. (By Saint Antiochus)
O Only-Begotten Word of the Father, Jesus Christ, who alone are perfect: according to the greatness of your mercy, do not abandon me, your servant, but ever rest in my heart. O Sweet Jesus, Good Shepherd of Your flock, deliver me from the attacks of The Enemy. Do not allow me to become the prey of Satan's evil intent, even though I have within me the seed of eternal damnation. Instead, O Lord Jesus Christ, Adorable God, Holy King, while I sleep, protect me by Your Holy spirit, through Whom You sanctified Your Apostles. Enlighten my mind by the light of the Holy Gospel, my soul by the love of Your Cross, my heart by the purity of Your teaching. Protect my body by Your sacred passion, my senses by Your humility, and awaken me in due time for Your glorification. For You, above all, are adorable, together with Your eternal Father, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen. (By Saint Antiochus)
The following form of evening prayers is taken from "The Key of Heaven, a Manual of Prayer for the Use of the Faithful", Imprimatur P. Fenton, Vicar General, Westminster. In the Name of the + Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. O my God, I believe that Thou art here present; and that Thou observest all my actions, all my thoughts, and the most secret motions of my heart. I adore Thee, and I love Thee with my whole heart. I return Thee thanks for all the benefits which I have ever received from Thee, and particularly this day. Give me light, O my God, to see what sins I have committed this day, and grant me grace to be truly sorry for them. Here examine whether you have offended God during the day, by any thought, word, or deed, or by neglect of any duty. O my God, who art infinitely good in Thyself, and infinitely good to me, I am sorry, and beg pardon for all my sins, and detest them above all things, because they deserve Thy dreadful punishments, because they have crucified my loving Saviour Jesus Christ, and, most of all, because they offend Thine infinite goodness; and I firmly resolve, by the help of Thy grace, never to offend Thee again, and carefully to avoid the occasions of sin. Here put yourself in the disposition you desire to be found at the hour of death. O my God, I accept of death as an act of homage and adoration which I owe to Thy Divine Majesty, as a punishment justly due to my sins, in union with the death of my dear Redeemer, and as the only means of coining to Thee, my beginning and last end. Into Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit; Lord Jesus, receive my soul. O holy Mary, be a mother to me. May the blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and all the Saints, pray for us to our Lord, that we may be preserved this night from sin and all evils. Amen. O my good Angel, whom God has appointed to be my guardian, watch over me during this night. All ye Angels and Saints of God, pray for me. May our Lord bless us, and preserve us from all evil, and bring us to life everlasting. Amen. And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
